What is typical time frame to convert from HE to IR? My DD has been doing the HE style for couple years but are looking to change.

My 14 year old decided she wants to pitch again. It's been 4 years. She said "I am not playing basketball this winter, I can work my butt off and be amazing."
So last week she dug out our building the house vid, and went to work. Did ok, never really completely lost it. Then Saturday we went through this thread and all BM's stuff. With in 30 minutes of doing the drills she was throwing harder and hitting her spots. She said "this is so much easier!" Been catching her the last 4 days and except for not having any other pitches, she is throwin like an average 14 year old. I am thinking just work on really throwing some heat and then start on a change up in few months. Maybe by spring she could pitch an inning here or there.

Starting taking my daughter to Denny Tincher and he changed her in about a minute and a half. Most unbelievable person at explaining all the things that seem so Difficult. Its been 3 months and has gone from mid 50's to something totally different. My daughter is 5'5" and is throwing as hard as the good girls around 6'. She just turned 15. She will be on the radar gun in 2 weeks, cant wait to see what a certified radar gun says. By the way the drop, change, and curve are all thrown the exact same way. Each took about 15 min. to learn for her. Just a matter of timing to get to each pitch, and tightness of the grip. By the way, Angela Tincher is the most over looked pitcher EVER in college softball. Her size, number 3 all time in strike outs and almost every other statistic. 600 strikeout Jr and Sr year and no hit team USA!!!!! He has LITTLE girls blasting the ball with exceptional control.

She does practice almost every day for about 15 minutes on each pitch. She actually gained about 3-5 miles an hour in 3 hours the first trip to virginia. Her coaches and catcher are amazed the difference. Catcher who has caught for her since last august was there with us and said the difference was night and day. We are now seeing a different Tincher pithing instructor who is about 7 hrs closer to us, every 2-3 weeks. Jonathan Hon is also exceptional at teaching.

First off, hello to all and what a great site! I find myself having to learn about pitching. I come from a small rural area and, like a general practicioner doctor, I need to know a lot about everything. I have read most of the threads on IR and will continue reading. I'm pretty sure I understand the difference between HE (back of hand facing target after 12) and IR (palm up after 12). Where I am having the most trouble is post snap. I keep reading that the hand should act likes it's closing a door, ie a horizontal motion. but the snap is a vertical motion. so how does this work? does the natural motion of closing the hips act as a transition movement? (Just so you know, I am working with 10s and 12s but now the older girls want help, too.)
many thanks!

Just think H/E as being more of a bowling action.

There really is no "snapping" unless you are calling what happens after brush interference that. After release you should just let the arm go natuarally. It should come up in a "frenchmans kiss" pose.

You will have to describe "closing the hips" because the hips should be at 45 degrees at release and not really closing like the do with an H/E delivery.

thank you, Dial. I get the bowling thing. I'm thinking that after release, we're not closing a door but doing what you said. I assume after the ball is released, the hips close and the pitcher is facing the batter. I initially assumed the IR caused the hand to continue turning inward, which would be a horizontal motion. After watching more video from this site, it appears there IR stops when the palm faces the batter and the ball is released and then the hand just continues up naturally. It's still a little confusing.

I've noticed that since we've been working on her IR more specifically, after release my daughter's hand ends up across her body up towards her left shoulder (she's right handed).

I've never heard how throwing a softball underhand emulates closing a door in a horizontal motion. That's a new one for me. That sounds like a sidearm throw vs. an underhand throw. I guess if you were grabbing the door down by your thigh and with the door just behind your rear thigh you threw the door closed from that position it might work. Is that what you see here?

And how do you see the finish here? It's fairly loose and natural after the ball is thrown forward.
