A forced follow through is a forced follow through. Ideally, the focus should be on what it takes to get the desired spin, then let the hand go where it may after. There are some that suggest forcing a similar follow through with every pitch to help disguise each, but not sure at that point it really makes a difference.

Here's a video of Coach Hillhouse pitching:

Notice how his upper body stays in line with the stride leg and how little bend he has at the waist? IMO, this is very efficient and has low potential for injury/fatigue.
I don't know much....correct that... ANYTHING about men's fastpitch softball, but I have to assume the rules are VERY diferent from girls fast pitch? I don't know if that's a crow hop, a leap, or both. Also, the stride leg being 2' behind the rubber looks a bit unusual.

Now, in complete contrast:

That's what I wanted to clear up as far as the bending at the waist. Some bend almost 90 degrees and I agree that is not good or should I say not necessary but a slight bend/tilt like Hillhouse is very acceptable. The video of Hillhouse does surprise me though because even though I haven't seen him pitch much, I was under the impression he followed through to the opposite shoulder on every pitch.

Yes obviously the rules are much different for the men and allow for what you see. The other thing about Hilhouse's follow through is I have seen other videos and I don't remember it looking like that my guess is it my have to do with the pitch selection.

It's been a while since viewing his videos, but my take on following through to the opposite shoulder was helping people understand why HE and being closed at release is undesireable. I doubt it's a must do; rather, more of which direction the hand naturally travels during follow through when using open mechanics. I could be wrong...
