DD's PC recommended she take a break from pitching for one month. Not even pick up a ball. DD was really nervous about not practicing at all for one month but did it. Today she threw for first time at a lesson and did great. She looked refreshed, was coming off the rubber hard, and still had her spin. Little rusty hitting corners but not worried about that. Practice will take care of that. So for those who wonder if breaks are ok, my experience is it was great. She's ready to start the spring TB season.

Glad it worked out for you. :) Anyone who doesn't allow breaks for pitchers are idiots and have never spent successful time on the rubber. Pitchers carry a tremendous weight on their shoulders unlike any other position player. Resting the mind and body is as essential as any workout or routine. Most coaches grossly mis manage their pitchers.

DD has always taken from Thanksgiving until the new year and came back strong. Last winter she extended her break until the first of February, more is better, right? NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

Pitchers really need to have a break.

I am glad to hear someone else believes pitchers need time out of the circle. Everytime my DD has a break even for two weeks, she comes back stronger. I like two months after nationals off minimum for my DD and three doesn't bother me at all.

My dd get's lot's of breaks. I think they definately need time outs to think about and do something other than softball. But when it's time to get ready for season and during season she works really hard. By the time summer is over she is wore out(just like the rest of us).
Dd is gonna play more games this year than she has so I'm gonna try and let her have breaks during the season. Maybe when she has a weekend off let her go several days without throwing. Gonna depend on her. She played a bunch last year also. So we'll see how it goes.
Usually, by the end of longer breaks she is ready to gauge her eyes out from boredom.

In the past my DD has taken a break from pitching from Thanksgiving to New Years, but this year she did a couple of clinics and is scheduled for a skills showcase next weekend, which makes 'down time' difficult.....

Not completely sure it's directly related but the one year here that DD did not take any time off she ended up almost quiting.

I would say definitely take at least a month off.
