It depends on the style of the slapper. The old drop step and run at the ball slapper the change up might work. Not today. Slappers are taught to make contact with the ball over the plate and to hit the ball 3 feet in front of the plate into the ground. We had a kid do the old style slap move and we got her called out of the box by throwing the change up. My dd does not run out of the box, her bunt, slap and power slap are all the same move. You throw her a change up and it will go down the first base line as a drap bunt and rarely is she out. I agree with Bill down and in and get the ground ball to second base. Down and out is easy to slap to short, or what the kids are taught today a duck hit over the third base's head , so left field has no chance to catch it. Keep in mind good slappers are taught to take what the defense gives them.
