Go to youtube and type in Denny Tincher-Screwball Analysis

Thank you Tojo.

I turned off the volume to ignore foolish comments like ... being able to tell the quality of the screwball based on where the catcher set up. What I observed was an angled pitch.

What would you call this pitch without using the word "angled" or "screw"? Nothing silly :), I'm asking seriously. ( I'll admit the angle of the video and quality is poor )

I mean she's using a decent method ( besides the step out ) she's wanting to run the ball laterally through the zone on the pitching arm side, so she should be standing/starting from the glove side of the rubber.

I see lots of pitchers using this method. But if we agree it's not "screwing" we surely aren't going to here the WCWS say "nice angled pitch". So what would be the proper term?

The term often used for this pitch is a "screw ball". I suppose some might classify it as a fast-ball, or drop, thrown at an angle.

Yes ... the angle of of the video is poor ... and if you look at objects in the background then you'll notice that the camera was not stationary during the pitch.

Question for you ..... if one only needs to rely on 'movement', then why the need to jump to the left-most portion of the pitching lane?

Sure I'll give my opinion. First my () in the above post, I'm not a huge fan of the step out/jump. I'm not condemning, for some it works.

There's what 24" of rubber? I believe a pitcher needs to learn to use it all. Look, nobody has to throw a breaking ball every pitch that "moves" 15" for a called strike. This is where the pitcher can use a few inches to his/her advantage. Let's say you're a RHP throwing outside to RHB, the pitch doesn't have to stay in the zone for the entire 12" depth/side of the plate. All you gotta do is run it across a tip or corner.

Plate and rubber from pitchers view
A = outside corner / left side rubber
B = mid plate / mid rubber
C = inside corner / right side rubber

So what would be harder on the eyes and brain to track? RHP vs RHB throwing from C to A or A to A?

Why do we like LHP throwing to LHB? Not only for the directional spin of the pitch but also the batter doesn't "see" as well when the pitch is moving away. We call it the "illusion" in BB, you're on the far RT of the rubber throwing across the the LT part of the plate. ( RHP to RHB ) Throwing from a point behind or even with the hitter as oppose to seeing the pitch all the way from the opposite side.

It doesn't amount to a whole lot, but EVERY LITTLE advantage adds up to big things for a pitcher.

Hope I explained this right, Cards are playing. :)

Edit: No the Cards aren't playing, there just taking up space on the field. :(

The one that I had once posted on here had a line from the middle of the pitcher plate to the catcher so you could see if she was stepping way out and also see right were the ball breaks.

It isn't on youtube anymore, and the posts are gone from the screwball thread on here.[/QUOTE

I recall the video you are referencing. What was the title of that thread?
