    Default Thank you!

Just had our first 10U hitting practice. It went very well. Thanks to all who come to this site with ideas, discussion, advice, arrogance, humility, questions, answers, opinions, facts, rhyme and reason. Wish I'd found this 8 years ago. Up to last year, I had asked a few buddies, skimmed a few sites and combed through youtube with minimal success. Taking a few simple points gleaned from folks here, no drills and a few minutes with each kid, I could not believe how quickly kids picked it up and progressed. A couple kids swung so poorly their first few swings that the girls shagging came closer and we ended up with a couple close calls once the hitter dialed in. For the first time, I feel like I have a little better grasp on the swing basics and am amazed at how quickly the kids got it. It was fun to see their eyes light up as they put it together and felt good to hear the comments from the parents in the background

    Thanks again,
    Ken

Gotta add: Throw the bat at the ball, elbows hanging, bat knob and front toe connected by a rubber band, weight even, knees bent and a knuckle knocker grip--those were the main points. That and soft tossing straight up and just ahead of the front foot--it was like voodoo magic. Can't wait til next practice!

My 17 YO daughter started helping coach a 9U recreation team, yesterday she comes home and complains they just want listen. She said, ”I show this one girl to get low to field a ground ball and she tells me it makes her look stupid, people will think I’m setting on the potty”.

Looks like she is getting a dose of what I went through when I coach her team at that age.

    I love it!!!!!

    GOOD LUCK TO YA!!!!!!

Thanks. Had our first scrimmage and our hitting was productive. During warm up, I asked a couple girls that I hadn't worked with at practice to keep their elbows hanging loose in the stance. Both announced that they'd been told to get the back elbow up... Should I insist on hanging elbows, or let the back elbow go as long as they have a decent grip and bring the back elbow down in the swing?

IMO, having the back elbow up is stylistic and seems to be more prevalent in baseball than fastpitch. I don't think either way is correct or incorrect as long as the load is proper and they get to the same "power V" position at POC.

A wouldn't try to change stylistic techniques but focus more on the absolutes in hitting.

I noticed that at last practice--one girl had the elbow up in the stance but tucked it during the swing.
