My DD has put a lot of effort into developing a good swing. Many of you have good eyes and some great comments. There are a few things in this swing we are still working on, but I told her that I would put it on this site and see what other people have to say. This forum is allowing us to have some fun with the swing project.

Not bad. There is still a lot that she can build on from the ground up and I see her spinning on the rear foot and leaving too much weight on it. But, she is 10 and she is doing a lot right.

How big is that bat and how tall is she? It just strikes me as a little long, but it could be the camera.

Agree with Amy, this is an example of spinning. Agree with the suggestion on working on a weight transfer.

Watch Megan and pay attention to what she does with her rear foot when she says "oh look, I'm running". See if you can add that to an uncoil.

The bat is a 28/18 and she is 5'1".

I agree with you about the spinning. One of things we are still working on I feel is somewhat related to that. It is not as pronounced in this swing, but one of her habits is to lose her spine angle when she goes to load/coil. Her upper body moves up and slightly back creating momentum rearward to the back leg.

Rotation is quick and complete, but it seems that rearward momentum cancels out some leg drive in the weight transfer, which leaves her on her back foot. She doesn't generate the force to get on to her front leg for a strong plant. Being 10, I'm not sure how much of a power drive I should look for. She will be excited to see comments. Thank you.

Amy, I got some TCB's on your recommendation. Have not gotten to use them yet.

I would really like to see her start with her front elbow down and lower that her back elbow. That is what I see in every swing posted by FFS in the Model Swing link and it is a simple adjustment while you work on the other stuff.

in terms of "running" feel, the "hip cock" involves a back and forth turn of the hips similar to how the lower body will support a good overhand throw. The "hip cock" also involves the muscle "torso activation" that Dixon talks about which produces more accurately as in some of the recent golf descriptions "lumbar lordosis".

in the HLBB swing, you do not want to overdo/make "the move" active since this will take the weight forward to swing on the front foot (shift then swing, great for golf consistency, poor for on the fly swing adjustment for limited reaction time).

the raer hip turning back over/while keeping a firm rear leg (tug of war/INternal rotation at rear hip) will turn the rear foot back some, then when the rear hip reverses, it needs to be supported by rear foot (not leg/knee action, but foot/ankle action) eversion/push which is what gives the closest thing to the "running" feel the way it happens in the HLBB pattern.

Thanks for the info on the bat. At first, I was going to laugh myself for thinking it was too long and say "too short." But, she is probably good for this year with a 29. If you see a decent 30, though, pick it up. It will give her more sweet spot.

Tom, I agree with the importance of rear foot eversion.

In talking to someone instructing a 10yr old, I believe if they worked on “coil/uncoil”, and added the feel of “I’m running” to the “uncoil”, that they stand a reasonable chance of capturing the rear foot eversion process that we desire.

IMO, the chances of success improve if the hitter knows to establish a pressure point towards the inside ball of their rear foot, in which cause it is easier to ‘feel’ and ‘blend’ the transition from ‘coil’, to ‘uncoil’, to ‘eversion’ and into ‘plantarflexion’. During the “I’m running” ‘feel’ there will be a pressure sensation on the ball of the rear foot that pushes forward, as opposed to spinning as this girl currently does.

I’d like to see this girl give the “I’m running” feel a shot ... adding it to the end of her 'uncoil'. I’ve used it multiple times in the last few weeks to cure exactly this issue.

p.s.
Ihowser is on the money with his comments. A BHUT move would be more productive IMO.
