This kid has style.

Yes she does! LMAO.... you have no idea. But would not change a thing for the world.

BTW, her softball nickname is Skittlez. Care to guess why?

Im1 ... the difference in these two swings is pretty amazing. One lacks a reasonable sequence, the other has the workings of a decent sequence. One has 'bat drag', the other does not. One 'spins', the other is significantly enhanced.

There are people on this site that don't believe 'bat drag' can be addressed this quickly. Meg is living proof that it can.

Not only does Meg have style ... but she's improving.

Now let's address what she's doing going into contact. What is up with that?

Thank you FFS! She certainly can be a quick study once she puts her mind to it. We have been looking thru the various posts in this thread for the last hour and I think she is starting to understand what you guys are getting at. Guess the real test will be in the next video. Thank you for assembling the above video (still have no idea how you do it, but is definitely cool).

Ok, here we go. First 3 were from earlier tonite. Then after reading thru the various threads we did a couple things in the basement. My personal favorite is the second cut in the last video. IMO her finish after contact looks better than in the videos from yesterday.

The reverse hand drill will help her swing. Try to finish higher like my daughter and not so flat.

In the 2nd and 3rd video her first move the knob of the bat goes to far out over the plate.
Knob to ball when pitched off machine.

I see a circular swing is why she hits her shoulder. The reverse hand drill also helps that.

A simple thought of pulling more with the lead hand will improve her hand path. The knob will go more to the pitcher before she release's the bat head to ball.

My personal favorite was the first cut in the last video. Why? The pronation of the top hand and supination of the bottom hand looked much more natural and unforced ... more like just allowing the top hand to pass the bottom hand ... nothing being forced ... simple release into contact. Would like to see a tee swing with that added to it. The bottom hand will supinate ... don't fight it. The top hand will pronate ... don't fight it. No last ditch effort.

Also would like to see Meg try the "reverse top hand" drill.

IM1 ... just noticed that Meg did perform the "reverse top hand" drill. Slightly different version, but it suggests that the issue at contact isn't an issue when the top hand is reversed. That's a potential data point.

Yeager describes the following as throwing the top hand past the bottom hand.

Take note of the bottom hand. Very important that you don't destroy the bottom hand/arm at 'contact' ... that's your hitting lever.

Take a look at what Cal Ripkin has to say on the bottom hand 'back handing'. Slightly different concept as opposed to trying to have the bottom hand remain palm down ... more oriented towards allowing it to roll.

Show her this clip again and ask her to repeat this trying to have the elbow hide the hands a bit more at setup and then try to have the hands stay behind the elbow a little longer....she should do this in a mirror.

Immortal1 - I find that the girls understand the swing better when the upper body action is broken down into three basic movements. 1) Getting the hands flat - which is tied to how the back elbow slots. 2) Lateral shoulder tilt - which is dependent on pitch height 3) Shoulder/upper torso rotation

When I teach, I demo each movement independent of the other, and then have the girls perform each move separately. Once they display an understanding of each of these movements, I have them combine all three into one seemless move, using a slow motion swing.

In these latest clips, I'm not convinced your daughter has a clear understanding of the hand flattening move, although the swings in the very last video clip look better to me. If she were my daughter I would isolate the hand flattening move to remove any doubt about her understanding of that part of the swing. If the correct movement is showing up in some swings and not in others than IMO it's worth spending some time working on it.

My philosophy is to increase swing efficiency by working upstream. The hand flattening move is way upstream and often times a correct understanding of that part of the swing will fix issues downstream. Rather than introduce a new drill, perhaps she just needs someone to simply isolate the hand flattening move, so she can clearly see that part of the swing.
