Immortal1, I went back and reviewed some earlier swings of your daughter. Despite the issues I've mentioned above, and the two areas that I'd like to see the two of you address, I want to point out that there has been a ***significant*** improvement in her upper body mechanics. She is no longer trapping the barrel behind her head/back with the accompanied severe 'bat drag' that was associated with that. You've been busy ... that can be a frustrating area to tackle.

If you would ...... please share what your daughter worked on to address that area of her swing.

Immortal1, below are some GIFs of BoardMember performing a drill to get the "feel" of the pressure sensation between the ground and the rear foot. This is a 'drill'. The 'coil' is not this dramatic ... the purpose is to get a hitter to 'feel' the build-up of rotational pressure between their foot and the ground.

Consider practicing the drill below ... "coil" and "uncoil".

iliwlv.gif

Try to feel the "clockwise" pressure between the rear foot and the ground during both the "coil" and "uncoil". Feel the pressure build-up, or 'gather', and then increase to reverse the coiling action ... 'coil' and 'uncoil' ... all the while maintaining a "clockwise" pressure between the rear foot and the ground.

Then try the following drill.

See how long you can maintain the "clockwise" pressure wrt the rear foot before the rear hip takes control of the rear foot.

Here is Megan ... notice that she prematurely rotates the rear foot "counter-clockwise". I.e. ... she "squishes the bug". She leaks her primary source of power. Instead, we want her to work to maintain a "clockwise" force about the rear foot until the rear hip dictates differently.

So practice those drills. Then make some swings working on "coil" & "uncoil". See if you can get the feel of the "clockwise" pressure building, "gathering", about the rear foot and fueling the "uncoil" of the "rear leg".

Patients I have. Megan on the other hand....
But as always I will do my best. Thank you very much for the write up. With any luck we will have a chance to work on this before next Sunday.

Also work on the stride foot. She shouldn't be landing flat on the ball of the stride foot. She should be striding on the big toe and when she does drop the front heal, the back heal should be lifting. She will probably feel herself driving off of the big toe of the rear foot.

Immortal1 ... Megan just tackled a much tougher issue. Don't know to credit you or her ... but congrats to the two of you in the journey.

"The move" is much easier. Hopefully the GIFs of BM will help. Can't stress enough the importance of developing a solid lower body. Right now Megan doesn't have a base worth building a swing around. You can change that.

The above really helps explain "The Move" better. As for the serious bat lag it might have had something to do with not wanting to be at practice that particular day. I did explain to her, and had her read what you were talking about as it pertained to the bat drag. Below is a couple of videos I shot from back in March of 2010. Might give you a better perspective of her swing. Having reviewed what was written above, I did notice the squish the bug move in the March videos.

IMM1 ... CSH has an important point here. The assumption on my part is that when your daughter actually learns to 'coil' that she'll learn to lift her front foot off the ground (... at the very least, the front heel will need to come off the ground ... but try to make it the entire front foot). From there my expectation is that the rear leg will be in charge of the lower body mechanics.

This helps.

Yes ... she's a major bug squisher. She's leaking her major source of force generation ... causing her to search and find a weaker source of force generation. Learn "the move" ... it's relatively easy, and the payback is big.
