Anyone use or have an oppinion on the Insider Bat. Several players can't seem to figure out hands inside the ball. I am sure it's the verbage I am using but I can't seem to get them on the same page.

Found this and was going to give it a try.

Thanks!

We use it, but you have to be very very careful with Tee placement. I found that if the tee is too far out in front the hitter will actually begin dragging the bat to hit it straight. But I believe that every tool has to be carefully used. The sweet spot seems to be right about the belt buckle while they are in their stance if not just a tad in front of the belt buckle. When set up right it really helps kids to get it without much input on your part.

It is outstanding. I would recommend hitting tennis balls flipped from the front over using a tee. If you are going to use a tee, try taking slow swings to contact and stopping there. Get a feel for what the hands need to do, then speed it up.

Since a pivot point is a point, then by definition it's tight.

I wouldn't watch any of the videos that sell the IB, because they promote a bad swing.

Chris, I would absolutely love seeing a video of you swinging the Insider Bat. As evidence by your post on baseball fever, you opinion of this bat is strong, but you also said you never used it.

The pivot point is tight in relation to the handset at go (when the hitter commits to the swing), not the point itself. The swing and HPP is "tight" if during the initial burst of the swing, the hands stay tight. In my hip isolation drill, reminding kids to "stay inside the ball" will often fix this. If the hands cast out or drop, the HPP becomes loose and the swing gets long and slow. Turning the triangle, BM's terminal velocity stuff, hand torque, getting palm up palm down immediately, stacking the forearm around the corner... this is all very similar. The "under the hood" feel of the swing is often very different, but the concept of staying inside the ball is usually there. The look can be very similar. The insider bat is an excellent device for hitters to stay tight and begin gaining new feelings and new body awareness.

U of A uses the Insider Bat and they introduced it to us during the last clinic. As I recall, it has players using a "line up the knocking knuckles" grip, which Candrea didn't like. Don Slaught thought that the manufacturer was going to change that.

I am waiting to buy it, if they make that change.

Holding mine in my hands now... You don't have to line up the knuckles. That being said, I have heard that there are updates coming to the product.
