I have posted here before. I have read this site for years with great success . But as always trying to get my DD and myself better. DD has been working on turning the barrel better , or I should say creating separation better, which seems too turn the barrel more naturally. I'm interested in any feedback with my attempt at getting DD in the right sequence with all the right mechanics. We made the changes 3 months ago during fall/winter season. Power is way up. Adjustability is better. Top velocity pitchers seem to give her some problems. Could it be a timing issue? Or does she need to shorten her swing a bit? Or am I just trying to rush this process and not letting her GET COMFORTABLE with her basically new pattern.

She was more all forward in her old swing. But velocity was never an issue. Her power wasn't great though. She was mostly a singles/doubles hitter. And didn't care for the outside pitch.

Here's a link to both swings.

Thanks for feedback and advice.

All in all I wouldn't not mess too much with success, she is obviously doing a lot of things right. It is also hard to compare because the second video is from behind, a bad angle

but you asked so here is my two cents...which is about all it's worth

It looks like she is leaking power (yeah hard to say when someone jacks a HR but I said it) and slightly too quick beginning with her upper body and hands and not getting as much separation as I'd like to see, maybe it's a weak load and coil?

The stills I took were at heel plant, the first stance actually looks more aggressive, the only way I can tell is bat angle and separation versus the second still, although like I said it looks like she never gets separation in the second video but could just be the angle.

Again all in all a lot of good going on I would just like to see her reach back/separate a little more (almost like the first still) while foot is going forward and not beginning forward motion of hips, upper body and hands until after heel plant. In second still you see a slotted elbow, hips turning and barrel turn beginning which is all good just a little early but if the timing is working for her it's a hard sell to change...could be as velocity increase she needs to keep starting sooner but she should address this by beginning her whole swing process sooner not getting out of sequence. Ideally at heel plant she looks like the first still then a couple frames later looks like the second still.

Work - like DJ mentioned - hard to argue when the new swing result in HR's!

But I'll add my .02 from the rookie end if the bench - I like her old swing better.

Maybe it's the different angles, compounded by different pitch locations. But she looks like she never shifts her weight on the new swing. Looking at her rear foot, it comes real close to spinning (it looks to roll over, more than be lifted by the hip action). I think the spinning would have been more pronounced if the pitch was lower. The still DJ posted shows her front leg still slightly bent - her hands are starting to come around, but there's no blocking or resistance being provided yet. (Not sure if this is what's meant by front-side resistance?)

It may also make things clearer if a few more frames were available at the start of the second video, to get a better understanding of her load and timing.

Lastly - the only thing I would change from her old swing would be her follow through. It seems to end too low, and may have been the reason for the singles and doubles (lower trajectory). I'll defer to others for a solution - but IIRC, the "Reverse Top Hand Drill" has helped others ingrain the feel of a higher follow through.

Best of luck with the off-season "tweaks"!
