Cruz%20Lower_zpsmnqdy3gl.gif

Really watch these two gifs, these two actions are a world apart.....
Coiling "into"..Coil/Uncoil Vs. Coiling "around"..hip slip
Pushing vs. pulling
Slow vs SNAP

Your DD looks pretty polished. This could be a change that she can make rather quickly.....

Thanks Spartans I believe I see what you are talking about and that is something that was introduced to her not long ago and working on. Just to verify are you talking about the slack?

Watch the vid of your DD's lower half. She gets a coil, then quickly uncoils as she is moving forward. This is extremely common. If you compare that to Cruz, you will notice he coils, and his coil continues to get tighter as he moves forward and eventually his pelvis "falls behind" his rear leg. He never loses that initial coil.....

The video of the kid may seem meaningless, but he is gaining an understanding of what he should be feeling in his rear hip socket. He is getting coiled, tightening the coil, and his hip is "slipping" behind the rear leg. I've watched that video 100 times before I realized how valuable it really is....

Never lose the coil. Coil "around" the femur, tighten the coil, "fall off the cliff" (pelvis falls behind the rear leg).

When DD can do that with a pinched scap, some lateral tilt, and rearward barrel turn she will be in elite company!

Yes I have noticed that she does that. Do you mind sharing what helped your DD get past that issue? We have been working trying to not shift weight to early which is what I think may be causing it but I am just guessing?

Good guess - and that's bc she's giving up coil early. If what RDbass/spartans said doesn't make sense, maybe try noontime's bb/a$$ description/guidance and go back and read boardmember's "the move" stuff

The more developed her core becomes, the easier this stuff will be to execute

"fall off the cliff" (pelvis falls behind the rear leg). - we swing off the curb in front of house, we have made incline boards -all to "fall off the cliff". ULL stepping off blocks. Tip as you step/turn as you fall - sync em up

I understand what you guys are saying about falling off of the cliff and allowing the pelvis to fall behind the rear leg. I have dabbled with this myself but never tried to work on this with DD. The problem I have with this is that I feel like I have no mobility in the hip like it is an all upper body type swing because my hip cannot come through it is actually pretty uncomfortable for me. I am sure I'm doing something wrong just can not pin point it. I could be falling to far forward and getting to much of angle between the rear leg and the hip socket causing a lot of strain on the joint? This is the reason I have not tried to incorporate this into her swing. Is what I am describing sound to be something that a person new to this type movement may feel?

Edited To Add

May be the best way to describe what I am feeling is that I never actually uncoil and may be that is the point??

I think DRDRODD said they were working on inside pitches in his initial comment..perhaps she was uncoiling too early to try and clear her hips and get barrel to the ball which isn't correct but perhaps a reason. What does she look like with a ball down the middle or outside corner? I wonder if one concentrates on landing with a more closed front foot would they be able to better keep the coil?? Just a thought..and probably wrong.

May I recommend having her do a round or two of tee work from the "pre-loaded/post-step position". This should help her to focus on the plane of the bat and throwing her hands hands through the zone. In my opinion, it looks like she is too concerned with the follow-through and looking to see where the ball goes. By focusing solely on exploding and using her already established weight rather than loading and stepping, she can focus on keeping her head down and minimal emphasis of shifting her weight. You may also want to try contact-reload drill.

Confused. If you land with pelvis open, aren't you losing all the coil/energy you created? It would seem to me all the cool left would be on the back which is fine, but this seems to defeat the purpose of a lower body coil.
