Hi All -

Kindly request some critical feedback of my 10YO DD's swing. At the end of last season she had some serious mechanics problems and was consistently driving balls into the ground. So far this season she is hitting well, but in my mind still too few line drives vs. where she was at the mid-point last season. I am a novice, but believe her hands are still positioned too high and her balance looks off (leaning forward too much). I remind her about her hand position consistently, but where they are in these swings is where they seem to naturally gravitate to.

For reference, here is where she was about six months ago:

I'm very grateful for any feedback, or things to work on with her.

Thanks!

So Cal
I would start by moving the tee back in her stance. Right now, she's pushing forward to get the bat to the ball, which we can see with the significant forward lean of her torso. She should be working against the front side, not shifting over the front side.

Just curious about one thing...hitting barefoot. I see it in both clips. Is that just a coincidence or is that by design when practicing? My gut (and nothing more than my gut) tells me that hitting barefoot with all that torque/stress can't be good for the feet, and may even impact the rest of the swing dynamics, but I honestly have no idea if that's true or not.

I suspected that may come up. My preference is for her to hit with something on her feet, but so far I've chosen not to pick that battle. If we are practicing more formally she will always gear-up appropriately, but if we are just getting some extra hitting in for fun I typically just let her wear what she wants. I'm guessing it's the age, but she really likes to counter most everything I suggest, and I figure getting the swings in is better than arguing over sneakers. If it's potentially impacting her mechanics maybe not such a great idea though.

I like the swing in green better and maybe it is because of the tee location but it's not just because of the tee location.

Not here.
I think because of the tee placement the 'leveling/level(A to C) to the ball type swing is more pronounced.

I see it in both swings. Just more so in the above gif.

I feel your pain! My 10 year old DD hates shoes. She removes them as soon as humanly possible and she practices hitting without shoes a good bit.
