This move is has been out for a while on Amazon and Netflix. It's HILARIOUS! Definitely a must-see for anyone who has experienced the magic of rec league sports - not just softball. :)

Having run rec for 3 years and coached a lot of 8U and 10U (and 12U) sports over 20+ years I really struggle to watch All-Stars. It is funny, but it is also really so, so painful to watch.

I used to think when my DD is done I'd go back and coach a younger team up again. I think I am going to go back and umpire instead.

Only if you commit to washing the league uniforms!

The painfully funny part is because it hits the nail so very squarely on the head with the character traits.

Oh no doubt.

I wish these people were all parodies or extreme versions of some of the parents I have met... but frankly they were tame compared to some I have had the dubious pleasure of meeting.

For two seasons we had a girl whose mom wrote a rather well known internet blog and she was extra special crazy. I got to feature in that more once.

I think I posted this a couple of weeks ago. BB and I are giving lessons. So, word gets out and there is a friend of a friend. They want an honest evaluation of their dd. I agree but tell them I don't have a time open and so, they would have to fill in if a player cancels or goes to a tournament. That wasn't good enough. So, I agree to give an hour long lesson at the end of my day which means just before dark. Long story short, it was an evaluation of this young lady pitching and hitting. (I told them I was not a pitching coach but, again, that was not good enough.) For one hour I was the most miserable person on this planet. Everything I asked this young lady to do was questioned. I spent more time talking than instructing and the young lady was not getting any reps in so I could really evaluate her. One example was that I asked this young lady to do the adduction drill that some talk about on this site. The parents wanted to know why I wasn't allowing their dd to wind up. I told them time and time again, it is an evaluation. When we finished, the parents didn't think that they got their money's worth since I didn't coach their dd to be some kind of star. Mom was really not nice. I told them that it was free as with all players I do an evaluation with. They have not been back and I'm not upset. This young lady is 8.

CB ... my first hitting session with a new hitter is an evaluation session also. Only difference is that I don't give any instruction during the evaluation. Why? I'm looking at the kid's swing and movement pattern. I'm trying to see where they are at and sum up a plan to get them where I want them. The second part of the first session will be a review of some basic drills with an explanation of the intent. In follow up sessions we get to work.
