sluggers,

Nice video post. I can see how you could relate it to what Coach Lotief advocates.

Ty Cobb, like many baseball players, used a very heavy bat. Probably 40+oz minumum. Ty was tallish, but not very stout.

A 40+oz bat is an on-deck warm-up sledge in fastball. The split start was required to heist that Paul Bunyan! Once it's in motion, there's a transition slide into a traditional grip through contact. Those old bats were usually shiny & slick, so the slide together worked.

Old baseballs could get soft quickly. A hard, solid-wall & heavier end-weighted bat could result in a greater inertia off contact with that type of ball.

:D

Thanks for the post always good to see the Georgia Peach swinging the bat. Years ago when in college (1973) I did a paper on Ty Cobb, still remember doing it.

Here is one of the "Best of the Best" all times...NCAA & NPF. She is one of the oldest player's now. She just won Player of the week... the last two weeks in a row...No doubt she uses the Split~Grip

I am curious about her bat weight.

I've been trying to get my 10yr old to go heavier but every time it messes her up. Maybe we will work with the split grip with a heavy bat.

I have no idea on her bat weight... I know she's not that tall. I know she will hit it where & when needed. I don't think her focus to put them over... but she can !!!

Its worth a try, if you can check it out without having to buy one. Chris ^#4 gave that as an explanation for Ty's help with hoisting the bigger bats.
