Hello ,
First post. Long time follower. My DD is 14u 2nd year, first year HS. We have been using epstein mechanics for a year, with good results. Only problem we are having is she has issues with the outside pitch. Her power is good . Swing is good. DD does not want to change her mechanics because she's had good results. My question is do we need to change mechanics or does her approach need to change? ( look outside more) .Her approach now is crowd the plate . Expect to get jammed and look middle in. Wondering if anyone has had this issue with epstein mechanics .

Well, without video I could only guess. My question to you would be do you think your DD is having trouble with the outside pitches because of her mechanics. Most Epstein hitters that I have seen, seem to have a 'problem' with the bat being stuck to the side of their shoulder. This seems to have the hitter hitting 'around' their body instead of 'out from' their bodies.

Just a guess.

The gif you show of the boy with "bat drag" does not keep anything locked, or pinned anywhere.

To better work with the outside pitch, one method would be with a tee.
Simply st the tee at the back knee, and in the outside zone.
then keep moving the tee away, further outside.

then front toss, having her even hit the ball FOUL.

hitting outside is no different than hitting inside with mechanics, its just your body will turn less on outside pitches.

For bass, the hands do stay right near where they start, in the "AROUND" but they are not "frozen" the wrists and forearms are very active

your second gif is a bad example of hitting outside, he steps right towards the pitch, steps closed, he can, it 30 mph.

opps boy sorry rdbass

Wrong.

I wish you would work with a multitude of hitters rdbass. You will learn quicker, then be able to give better advise.

I know you love to do this, so get some real hands on.

Explain what RD said was wrong.

Explain the correlation how working with a multitude of hitters enables an instructor to "learn quicker" and "give better advise".

Why is your advice any better than RDs?

Really?

Can you see the bat PINNED to the shoulder knight?

Have I damaged my teams rdbass?

do you not like what I said about outside knight?, and how to work on them?
Or, do you like that rdbass suggests to change mechanics, and this is the reason for problems.

So defensive around here

IMO, because someone works with a "multitude of hitters" doesn't make them a quick learner, nor a good advice giver.

Can you see the bat PINNED to the shoulder knight?

In RD's first gif, I do see the bat start pinned at the shoulder.

do you not like what I said about outside knight?, and how to work on them?
Or, do you like that rdbass suggests to change mechanics, and this is the reason for problems.

1. I do like what you suggested.
2. I also agree with RD's observation.
3. 1&2 are not mutually exclusive.

So defensive around here
