Hi gang. Really been working with 16 YO DD on her swing. We've made a lot of improvements but still feel we can improve. Thought I'd post a couple vids and get you guys take on things. One thing we have worked like crazy on is not dropping the hands to early but she still does it. Gets the lazy L instead of power V. Any tips to help correct this or any other analysis or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Good swing.

She loads her hands back, then comes forward. Per the recommendation of gurus on this board, my daughter now loads her hands AS she comes forward. That has led to a smoother, more powerful stroke, as opposed to a sorta stop-start, less powerful one.

Agree with CB above; needs to learn to "separate" more. Hands holding/moving the load back as she strides. Scap pinch.

I would mix in some high tee for the hand dropping thing.

Also, just in case you're spending too much time in front of a net, she needs to hit a LOT of long tee. Take her out to a field and hit from home plate off the tee. Front toss is good also, but the long tee to all fields is very effective.

Also, front toss, (and some tee) have her hit the majority (several buckets each field practice) of the pitches to right field. Opposite field VERY important!! It will do things for her swing you can't learn any other way.

PS: Swing looks great; especially the lower half shift!!

Anyone think the rear elbow is somewhat stuck?

Yup - and pinching the scap would only make it worse or create a huge push around.

This is on the money:

She loads her hands back, then comes forward. Per the recommendation of gurus on this board, my daughter now loads her hands AS she comes forward. That has led to a smoother, more powerful stroke, as opposed to a sorta stop-start, less powerful one.

A start would be to lose the shift back towards the catcher to start the swing. Learn to pick up the front foot and let the bat tip as part of this move. Try doing this by engaging her core muscles. Somewhat like doing a crunch. As she does this she should also pivot into her back hip (the way I teach this is - as she picks up her front foot and slightly cocks the front leg like a baseball pitcher - try and get the front hip under the belly button - discalimer - you can't physically do this but the feeling you get from trying is what we are after)

If she does this correctly - she won't shift towards the catcher.

Then as her front leg uncocks and starts to stride the bat will start to untip and her hands should start pulling back. This is the basic sequence that Coogan speaks of in his post. It is the sequence to throw and to hit.

Arod's leg kick is bit much IMO for a novice to start with but it shows the sequence pretty clearly

The problem with the bigger leg kick to start with is that if you don't use your core muscles you end up shifting around too much. Your core muscles will stabilize you and make everything tighter.

Good Luck - she looks very athletic!!

Leerph, just keep on working on keeping her hands up, pivot point near the shoulder, and getting the barrel deep.

Just to be clear, I'm speaking of the lower half shift into the ball.
The scap pinch (squeezing the shoulders together) that I mentioned should be at the top of the load. Maintaining that scap pinch until fire should help prevent dropping the hands; since that would be a very awkward feeling.
