I coach a 14u Travel Team and I am interested in some drills to help girls keep their weight back on slower pitching and or change-ups.. I was preparing them all winter and spring for 55-60mph pitchers and in tournament play we hit them very well! But, Lately we have come across a few teams that pitchers throw maybe 43-38mph..we are pulling everything and way way out front ..kinda like be fooled on a changeup but not as bad.. I have tried turning the machine down and even throwing some younger pitchers at them..to no avail..Their bat speed is dare i say it...too fast?? swings all mechanically correct , just cant seem to get the mental aspect of it down...They are seeing it well, hitting it hard, but all off end of bat due to being way ahead..Any ideas would be helpful!! Thanks

HELP.....Cannot keep wait back
This might help your players keep their weight back and also wait on the ball.
Watching and understanding this gif is your answer:

Pay attention to the differences of the 2 swings. On the right is an 'off speed' pitch.

See if these help.
He's pulling back constantly and continuously until he finally turns the barrel and breaks the stretch.
Loading hands back/keep pulling back and also hips resisting rotation as rear leg is IR(internal rotating).
Hold the coil until go.

If the swings are good You can stagger 3 home plates within 10ft. Have them alternate through the distances per round. IOW's switch it up within 15-20 pitches.

I agree with RDBass. Specifically watch the hands very carefully in the gif on the right. When doing soft toss I sometimes alter how much arc I place on the toss, trying to simulate different timing from the pitcher. Every once in a while I will fake the toss to see what they do with their hands. I want to see what Bonds is doing on the right during each fake.

I'm 20 minutes from you...do you practice at Lake Ave?

I'd be happy to take a look...and offer suggestions...

Fixing timing issues with a broad brush stroke approach is usually unsuccessful.

PM me if you're interested...CP
