Related question - Medicus

Related question, has anyone taught using a Medicus style training aid. I was getting deep into Siggy's page and actually built one of these:

I played around with it but it freaked my 12Uers out!

Is it a useful tool to work on swing plane issues? Repetition of proper movements would seem a great training approach....any thoughts?

Whip hit, is 28 inches from bottom of knob to middle of ball. use a batting cage machine baseball. or a 10.5 or 10 inch slow pitch ball. 5/8 size diamater rope and an old aluminum bat. pretty simple to make..... as far as using it goes, my biggest piece of advice is to make sure the front elbow is pulled hard and you finish high........ if you dont its not very forgiving.might be a good idea to wear a helmet for a while. It is created for a good first move to the ball and gives back immediate results. one of the best hitting tools out there.... alot of kids do not care for it because if your form stinks...... you can never master it....... hope this helps

As Tim posted. Best training tool on the market. I have made many. The 28 " setting is for a 32 inch bat. I have one set at 27" for smaller kids, who swing a smaller bat. Easy to make. 1 old bat, rope, I use ski rope. 1 baseball cage ball. If you have used one, you will quickly see how to make one. We soft toss with softballs to warm up before a game. There is an earlier post on this subject on page 3.

How exactly do you attach the cage ball to the rope? And the rope to the bat, for that matter?

Last thing I want is my homemade thingy flying apart : >

Drill a hole thru the bottom of the bat handle,,,,,,, drill a hole all the way thru the ball, knot one end of the rope and either clamp it, or burn it or glue melt it. Fish the rope thru the handle and thru the ball and repeat the knot on the other end. Then if theres space fill the handle with epoxy.... alot cheaper than 100 bucks online.

I will try to make one this weekend and let everyone know how it turns out.Do you cover the rope with anything or just leave it exposed? For a 30" bat do you make it 26" for the 10u girls?
Thanks, Allen

about the where the top of the wrap is .or right to where the barrell starts to taper out so you can put either gorilla glue or other stuff down in the handle to make it more secure
