The 'forward' click in this demonstration isn't taking place until after contact.

In contrast, notice the location of the barrel in the GIF below with the rear foot already pulled off the ground.

For Pujols the 'click' would have taken place prior to contact.

She lifts her front foot and reaches out with it, and then puts it down, and then pushes. Albert, and most MLB hitters lift their front foot and push from the back immediately. They push the front foot out from the back. Note how Albert pushes from the back, before his front heel drops. It depends on their style of front leg use. If they lift the leg high, like Buster Posey, then it does fall a bit before they push. But, they still push before, or AS, the front foot touches. They don't wait to get it down, and then push.

Telling them to kick the knee in can be an OK queue, but the knee doesn't supply power. The knee must stay bent as you push. And, the push is an abduction in the rear hip.
