An important early teaching point of SnF drill that I haven't seen emphasized is a simple but powerful one: it helps hitters start to understand that you can pivot around your rear hip, around both hips or around your front hip. High level hitters stretch and pivot around their rear hip/leg.

In my many years seeing hitting taught to my older DD by pretty well-respected instructors, generally using a RightViewPro/Candrea-style approach, that was NEVER a point of focus...that alone opens up the door to hand pivot point, the synch between the two, stretch and separation, etc. etc...(I'm not saying RVP doesn't teach some of that--separation, sure, live and independent hands, yep, but in pretty vague fashion)...

As Redhotcoach described earlier, it all adds up to something different and powerful. Some may say it's wrong, or that it's nothing new, but it certainly feels right and new to me...

Adding in the lower back initiating the pull back....sorry about the clip - I did this with my phone set up on a chair.

Once you figure out the lower back - all of the things that we have talked about fall into place....

I've never seen a good hitter's body move anything close to that, which is why I have no interest in the drill.

In particular, what the back leg does is way off.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what is the SnF drill? I know it stands for Stretch n Fire, but is there a clip showing the drill anywhere? Thanks

SNF drill
Casey and I did it for the feel of loading the rear end. Loading around that joint. Loading to unload.
I just dont use it to teach hitters after I experimented on her and a couple of the girls that have come to me for awhile..
They all got what I was trying to make them feel. They said cool, I feel it.

I work on throwing first every time I do a lesson. One to check the mechanics, two.. to warm up. After the warm up I have them throw slowing the first part way down.
Load around the rear hip, of course the coil, control the step out real slow with the rear leg in charge, at about the time the front toe touch's, let it go to full speed.

Kind of like when the short fields a ball, lets the runner think he/she is going to make it to first, then fires the ball for an out.

Loading and trying to get that feeling to me is achieved through throwing a ball with out taking bad swings with a bat.

I guess all the debates we have been in involved the bat path.
I don't think I have heard you talk about the rear leg. What does it do?

Lower back = Tail Bone

Tail bone in or out or both on a high level swing?

Tail bone in core engaged.?

There is no one that dislikes TM more than I. However, I do believe that he believes in what he teaches. That says a lot to me. I have often wondered about some gurus and their stuff because they seem confused in their message. If a drill such as the SnF works then it isn't important who's concept it is but rather appreciate the thought that went in to it and take advantage of it. I have never been to his site. I hear a lot about it. I know this, some have gone there and are happy as RedHotCoach seems to be. I think RHC's posts have reflected some great insights. I know that others that post here and elsewhere were once followers of TM's theories but, for what ever reason, left his site. I've often thought that whomever's philosophy you follow has to make sense to you. If it does and you can then transfer that to your child, then you are ahead of the game.
