I can see the tip of the catcher's glove in the Torres clip and the location appears similar to the Posey clip(not exact but not too far off either). Posey pitch is belt high, torres clip the pitch is just below the belt so to me not different enough to cause the differences I see in the swings. It also look like Torres' top hand has taken a palm up designation at the end of the clip as his back shoulder is turning under to flatten the bat.
Are you saying that because Torres bat wrap was coached out of him he has learned to use the shoulders and hips to pull the bat through as a way of compensating? I'm just trying to learn this from all the angles

Essentially.

They made him less efficient.

Bat wrap happens as part of the loading process. By limiting the movement of his barrel, they removed much of his loading mechanism. That made him more static and bound up. As a result, he had to swing harder to achieve the same result, which killed his average.

Last year he hit much better from the right side than from the left side, due in large part to the fact that they didn't mess with him from that side. From the right side he loads better and wraps the barrel more as a result.

The telltale is to watch how close the barrel gets to the back of the helmet.

I hope crankermo doesn't mind (it is a public youtube video) but here is the video that the GIF is from. I post just in case someone had suspicion that the GIF was doctored :)

Cheers,

So glad this clip made it into this thread....thanks to all the diggers. I think compare and contrast with knightsb's clip illustrates the next steps in knightsb DD journey very well....

Crankermo, can you describe what Brooke was working on and what she was emphasizing in her setup, swing and swing thoughts at the time of this video?

Rich,

That was after TM had her try the Babe Ruth drill and to feel a true running start. We actually adjusted her game stance to this. She said it makes her more explosive and that her swing loosened up. Just focused on SnF and the rear hip. This is her words " It just feels so natural and my body feels so smoothe and relaxed."

Just speaking for myself when she said that it was all the proof I needed. For further proof this swing came about after 1 day of talking with TM and doing the drill. I can remember when I played I would do stuff that I couldn't explain but my body would just take over and the ball would be flying over the fence. I never could get it consistently but when I did do it I hit anything and anybody.

Refreshing. Besides you (crankermo), that guy in background sounds genuinely impressed with you DD's swing.

Me too! I could watch and re-watch that all day. There is some power being generated there. Way to go Brooke.
