I know it is a scary thought - but she needs to start putting more emphasis on using her hands to turn the barrel into the ball and less using her body....

This isn't necessarily about this particular swing, but it's something I notice with almost every video that's posted on here:
Every tee is set at the belt line, right down the middle of the plate. I never use this tee set up - never. Not ever with my daughter's 8 & 9 year old team, not ever with my high school girls. Never. Good pitchers will never throw you pitches right down the middle, belt high. Even at the younger ages, I would rather they hit the ball off a tee place at least at the mid-thigh level. When they can master driving the ball gap to gap from a low tee, they're on their way to being a better hitter long term. Just an observation.

Here is some video from Monday. Not much time to work on it yet but I think she looks marginally better.

It's a good start. Seems like she's using her whole body instead of just her arms to swing the bat, which is good.

One thing that will help is bringing her upper body along when she goes to toe touch. If you look at it now, her lower body moves forward, but the upper body stays back where it starts, more or less. She ends up tilted back toward the catcher before she starts to rotate into the ball.

I had a hitter like that on my team a couple of years ago. Tended to hit a lot of popups and weak ground balls -- and believe me she didn't have the speed to beat out ground balls. I had her work on bringing her shoulder and hip forward when she went from load to toe touch, and it made a world of difference. It made it a lot easier to keep her front shoulder lower than the back until she started rotating. I think your daughter will find the same, which will put her into a better overall position to hit.

At this point I'd work on that next, then see if it helps correct a couple of other things on its own. Nice improvement from the first video, though.

Banditscoach,
Your DD has an open style hitting stance. Here is a good example of a hitter using the open stance. I hope this helps?

I actually paused the video in exactly the same spot maybe even a few frames earlier where she is bent over even more. It is scary because 99% of girls with upper half problems are too much arms and hands and not enough rest of the body. The way she is all the way bent over forces her to use her whole body to come up out of that crouch.

I would be curious to see what it looks like with a front toss or pitch maybe it is not as pronounced since she has to have her head up more to see the ball coming versus focusing on a tee.

Too much arms....never enough hands/wrists....but the arm usage is usually set up by trying to first use the upper torso to generate power....you only see arm swings in the younger girls.....

RD, I have been teaching her the open stance. I really like the open stance.

We have really been working hard on hitting for the past 3 months. She has pitched so much for the last 3 years that we have neglected hitting. We are really trying to get her back on track.

Can you give me a still shot of this kid at contact so I can compare the two in that spot of the swing.

I don't have a still shot at point at contact but, heres what you can do. Right click and save picture as. Then open in quick time and use the cursor or arrow. You can click video 1 frame at a time and pause the video at any point you would like to view. Hope that is better/helps?
