Agree completely wit MTS in first video especially her wrists are preset "back" often see this in fastpitch idea being it helps hitter catch up to faster pitching. You catch up to faster pitching by starting proper sequence earlier including using the hands properly.

The way she is presetting her hands she has less adjustability...she must straight line to the ball, so to speak. She loses the crucial ability of using her hands to 'find' the ball.

I wonder if this is why the extension drills she does with the radial bats help. She started at the beginning again and does daily extension drills off the tee and front toss. This seems to have helped some. I know it gets the wrists more involved. One of the coaches involved with our team coaches little to no wrist or hands and is adamant that when he coached in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization they coached torso turn at heel touch with the wrists doing nothing more than guiding the bat into the proper plane. He claims extension all happens immediately after contact.

I am not a hitting guru but We have been surrounded by more than a few folks with serious qualifications and experience. I listen. I also notice than for the most part they are all describing similar events with vastly different language and different beliefs in what is cause and what is effect.

Any suggestions for addressing the previously mentioned issues would be greatly appreciated.

Throwing, shooting, kicking, golf ball hitting....how many other sports have several drills that work on what happens after the major action is done? Should players work on extension that happens after the ball is hit, or does lack of extension just a sign that something isn't right earlier in the swing?E
Then there is ULL (and others) that had players that showed extension isn't always neccesary.

My advice would be to dumb it up. Leave the beach balls for the beach. Let GE worry about extensions. Give her a month away from any pirates (I know several Cards and Cubs that don't know squat about hitting, I swear there is a mlb retirement requirement that they have to tell kids to take the knob to the ball) let her hit the pig snot out of the ball, stop letting anyone coach her swing, tell her nothing.

Now we know why Bonds became a much better hitter after leaving the pirates, it was the beach balls.

OK. Here we are a month later and all is back to normal. Back to hitting bombs in the gaps. Strike outs have been few and far between and usually because the pitcher earned it.

The remedy seemed to be less hitting and getting away from destructive coaches.

She went to hitting 25-30 balls each day off the tee. Once a week hitting with ex MLBer who now mostly concentrates on simple things such as driving back hip and things like that.

Also left a team with National aspirations and talent. That team's coaches could effectively destroy any daughter if given the opportunity. They must not have taken Psychology or logic at Univ of Michigan.

Newsflash: Sitting a player for 2 consecutive games after hitting a walkoff 3 run homer against a heavily favored Arizona team is destructive to a young female power hitter. Especially when replaced with an 0-fer slapper who baby sits the coaches kids. Hooda thunk!!!

So thanks for all the input but I guess the answer revolves around a former two time All-American Power Hitter who has no clue about the power hitters psyche.

You guys are the greatest. God Bless!!!!

Looks like she drops the barrel a little to low at contact. I see a lot of girls do this. Is she getting under the ball?

As an Epstein guy what I see is that the bat doesnt get on plane with the pitch early enough. At 5 seconds you can stop the video and see that the knob is pointing down. At his point it should be pointing towards the pitcher. Her hands are dropping (hands should stay above the ball). her swing is a broad u shape instead of flat through the ball. she will hit the bottom of the ball alot this way. Also there is not enough separation between the lead elbow and the chestlangenfeld sequence.jpg

She wasn't even sniffing the ball.

    Now it's game on!

This has proven to me that hitting is >50% mental. Technique helps when contact is being made but without the mental side nothing else matters.
