first off, what na competitor! Love the way she attacks the ball.. this isn't always the case at 10 years old!

I am not an expert, but have been studying swing mechanics for a quite a few years .. I would say, that maybe her upper body is chasing the ball a bit, or her shoulders are moving forward to the ball instead of loading and exploding. If you notice the angle of her lower body to upper body, it is different that what we see (understandably!!!) at the college level. If you can work on her 'reaching' with her hips/hands, and not her shoulders, that will help with power a bunch.

FFS I cannot view the video, just the still shot. It looks like she is not gripping the bat correctly. I see that with many young kids her age and they have a very weak grip. If you can view the video better take a look to see if its the grip you posted . I use a bat jack with many this age till they learn to use the correct grip.

SBF ... I personally didn't like her forearm relationship in her stance ... but she widens that by the time she arrives in her launch position, at which time the knuckle orientation is that of a box grip. As to the real grip ... how she is holding the bat handle in her top hand looks way too deep ... a device such as the Bat Jack could be helpful there.

Thanks. I took a 18U last week and had her go to contact and took my little finger and pushed her bat back. She was holding the bat deep in the top hand. Had her do the same thing after fixing the top hand. I couldn't push the bat back with my hand. She got the picture. I had already taken my 50D and took pictures of her and showed her how her bat went backwards at contact. She could then see what happened.

    What stops a bat?
    Grip
    Not swinging hard
    Too heavy of a bat
    Too light of a bat
    Poor mechainics at Impact.

At that age and size, I would say eating more food will make the quickest difference

Could be all of the above SL, or even with some it needs to become a habit to drive through the ball.

I really agree with you here. That is something we are trying to address.

When you say holding it to deep. Should she be griping the bat more with her fingers as apposed to the thumb?

Yes, gripping the bat where it rests at the base of the fingers as opposed to having the handle in the palm of the hand.

Wow, some great feedback here. The bat she is using in the video is a 29/16, it is her lighter bat and only one that is not composite, so that's what we use off the machine. Her other bat is a 30/19. Remember she is only 4 foot 5 inches tall and weighs about 70 lbs. I'll put up some video from this weekends tournament for you guys to critique. Thanks again.
