The following is an attempt to clarify a few words. The hope being that the use of precise terms will be better received in discussions and not thought of as only belonging to technical posts.

With respect to the arm, the words "pronation" and "supination" describe the particular rotational movement of the forearm (not the upper arm [humerus], but the forearm).

With respect to the arm, the words "external rotation" and "internal rotation" describe the rotation of the upper arm (humerus) within the shoulder socket.

    Internal Rotation ....

    External Rotation ....

Noticed that Wellphyt & Mr T used the word 'ADduction' earlier in this thread ....

With respect to the arms, the word 'adduct' describes drawing the limb towards the body (i.e., towards the midline), while the word 'abduct' describes moving the limb away from the body (i.e., away from the midline).

Thanks for the definitions FFS, maybe they could be used for a "sticky" thread? Then we could have a rule, No use of terms not found in the sticky thread (unless they are added). Everybody's happy!!

LOL ... love it FPMark. In all seriousness, the better detailed our descriptions, the more we'll all help each other out. Your suggestion of a short list of body movements, along with a descriptive photo, may be helpful. Probably shouldn't restrict term usage though ... as we want to encourage as much independent thought sharing as possible.
