Hey all -

10 year old daughter hits pretty well based on her strength at her age and her bat path. She goes to a reputable hitting coach weekly and he has gotten her swing into pretty good shape. The on area that he continues to need her to work on is getting her back leg activated. Often her leg either just turns or doesn't move. During the lesson it improves and her power is significantly improved but then she will usually revert back at some point to just need to be reminded again and again.

Are there any drills that any of you use to help with this part of the swing? She gets away with not doing it in our Little League games usually because of strength, swing and just the lack of talent in the outfield to make plays on her hits but obviously that is not where our longer term goals lie.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

My DD seems to do the same thing from time to time. When you say get the back leg active I am assuming you are talking about stretch & fire? When my DD fails to get good coil it seems to me that it is because she is starting to late not "Early & Slow". She seems to get caught up in tracking the ball and forgets about the overall process leading to more of a shift then swing over a shift & swing. When she starts early & slow the process is already underway when she starts tracking the ball and the sequence is usually improved when this takes place.

Yes, Stretch and Fire sounds accurate. Hitting coach doesn't call it that but that's the point. How do you get your daughter to focus on this?

By starting early and slow helps my DD. Maybe someone can post the Jose B. video where he talks about how he changed his swing.

I am not completely sure that we are on the same page, run a search on SNF or stretch and fire they have tons of video & information on the form pertaining to this.

Annesdad....two drills that I have found to get good lower body involvement are the Flamingo drill, and Happy Gilmore drill. There should be numerous examples on youtube you can look at. Stress getting the lower body through first and hands back and high until time to fire/explode through the swing.
