When watching the Oriole's game a couple nights ago, the announcer said that Adam Jones was moved to lead off batter so he would see more fastballs there. Why do certain spots in the lineup see more fastballs? FYI- I never played the sport and have only focused on learning proper hitting and throwing techniques:)

In theory off speed stuff is harder to control. Since you don't want to walk the leadoff guy to start an inning they'll tend to give in more and throw fastballs to not start the game with a walk. Even in later innings they'll see more as they don't want people on base as the big hitters get up. The same can be said for the number 2 hitter as if the leadoff hitter has speed you will throw more fastballs to not allow a steal.
