DD's been taking some batting lessons at a local place, and they have this thing there that looks like a blocking dummy but is for beating to death with a bat. It uses the same material as a batting cage backstop, the heavy rubber mat that hangs behind the catcher, bolted to a metal frame.

I'll try to get a pic next time we're there, but in the mean time, anyone seen anything like this?

I am picturing a punching bag, I have heard it is hard on the wrist with little reward.

I guess it depends how much give it has.

You can see the mat here.

I was just wondering if anyone had seen such a thing. It's really helped DD get to the contact point in decent shape.

This is a old school method of training before big business took over. Almost everything today comes from this bag. How to hit low, high, and center and how to drive the ball by getting your hips rotated and using the whole side of your body. It also showed where your hands were on contact. In a nut shell this was a all in one training tool. Best thing about the bag was it was free all you had to do is buy some tape.

I like hitting into a bag, but it needs to be soft, like what kick-boxers might use w/ bare feet, not something that doesn't give much, like what I'm seeing here. DD used a plastic bat and a soft bag. Not much stress on the wrists.

Back on the dirt...
We have been hitting into a punching bag for a couple years with no complaints or issues. Agree with sb7 on some of the pluses. If you are ignorant and don't use common sense while using it, I guess it could be dangerous.
