Daughters high school field was situated right alongside a neighborhood street. We all knew not to park from the right field fence to about 200' past home plate. It never failed the visiting teams parents would show up and make comments about how nice we were to have left parking spots right near the field and gate.

The students watching the game were brutal. Any time a foul ball went over the fence toward the street they would all get dead silent and wait to hear the bang of the ball hitting a car, and if it did they all cheered and clapped.

It is always funny when you pull up to the park and there are tons of parking spaces available right next to the field....

I pulled up to a game and some dude parked his convertible Bentley about 30 feet behind the backstop in a no parking area. I was just waiting for a foul ball to smash that car. Probably figured if he has enough to afford such a car he has enough to fix it. Still dumb IMO.

I went out to watch a game a young student of mine was playing in. Her mom was one of the coaches, and parked her minivan right behind the backstop, basically about 20 feet from home. Sure enough, a foul ball goes up and immediately heads for (and breaks) her sun roof. I think she learned a valuable lesson about parking away from the field that day. :)

The students at the old school I coached at would get quiet on foul balls also. If it hit a car the would all golf clap or give out high fives.

Reminds me of a HS in our league. Its in an affluent suburb of Detroit and the field backs up to a relatively busy street. They probably have one of the shortest backstops in the area. In a typical double header, if you have a couple of pitchers who throw hard you will see 20 balls hit back over the backstop into the street. Beemers, Benzes, caddys, you name it its driving down that street. I never could understand why they never raised that backstop or put up nets. Saw tons of near misses and a couple of direct hits.
