One of the things we have done recently is to use a machine, and have the girls move progressively closer, focusing on quickness. At a certain point, they then start moving progressively further away while maintaining the same launch quickness. The lesson being to maintain the explosiveness of their swing and be in control of their launch timing - react to the ball, not the pitcher. As they move back to the furthest stations, the cue is to wait as long as possible to launch.

That's really good. Like that a lot. Many do the crossover deal but this adds to it.

I think it's ideal to bat against middle/upper speeds for your age division. 14U for example working against 53 -56 is great. It is harder to hit fast pitching so work against it. Working against too fast (say 55 mph at 25 - 30 ft) is not good. No realistic timing or mechanics.

Slow pitching is about timing as mentioned but it is just as much about adjusting to the late fall of the ball because of gravity. The bottom drops out and players sometimes have a hard time with it. You have to account for that.

In addition to my previous post about working at three speeds is the understanding that slow pitchers will have a lot more help from gravity (pitches will be low and slow)
So the adjustments we make are....
1. Stay in the front of the box
2. Stretch well after the balls release
3. See the bottom half of the ball
