We have a player on our team that everyone says must have a horseshoe in her pants. She seems to be able to have mis hits, bloopers, or as one parent says, "duck farts" and get on base consistently. She'll swing hard and it will drop like a bunt with a crazy spin. Thing is, she has done it consistently, getting into long at bats- and I hear, had been doing it for years. She plays on D3 college team at the moment. She occasionally hits a bomb but rarely strikes out and has about a .400 BA in 18U-A in over 90 ABs. DD seems to never have this luck except for this weekend. ..hitting several bloopers and had a great weekend at the plate.
Have you seen players that have been able to pull this off over long periods of time? Is this girl just great at battling at the plate?

DD had a girl on her MS team who had never played ball before last year. All she did was get on base, with a grossly inferior swing. I take it as evidence that superior hand-eye coordination is the foundation of great hitting. A blind kid with a "model swing" still wouldn't get on base much.

My dd doesn't have a great swing...yet! she's workin on it! She's a pitcher and she practices pitching more then anything, she's a great fielder she's always thinking about the next play. Her swing sucks! But she gets on base and pulls off some decent hits with that ugly swing.

DD didn’t use to hit the ball very hard and was on base all the time. This year she is hitting the ball hard right at fielders, they do not even have to move.

I hate this game. :)

That luck seems to pass around our team each year. OBP is sky high yet the actual at bats look terrible.

Keep track of Quality at Bats instead of average. IMO it is more accurate on what kind of offensive season your players are having....The kid who batted second for our varsity team this season hit .244..... She had a .475 OBP and lead the team in QABS.

Thomas Jefferson said that he was a great believer in luck. In fact, he said that he found that the harder he worked the more luck he had. Maybe this has something to do with it?

In the middle of the HS season DD's coach told her she had the "Hottest, but Unluckiest Bat" around. Fortunately, her luck changed!
