I have seen that video before, I think. It really didn't clarify much (for me) related to swinging a bat. Which extensor muscles? How and when should they be in action?

"Extensor action is exclusively the steady effort to straighten the bent Right Arm. This stretches but does move the Left Arm and produces a structural rigidity that is a strong deterrent to collapse under the stresses of Acceleration and Impact."

The pressure applied by pressure point number three to help keep the left arm straight. I like to feel pressure point number 1 applying pressure to the left thumb throughout the swing as well, this has the affect of straightening the left arm and eliminating slack from the arm swing. I also feel as though it helps to keep the hands at their address height in the takeaway, important for drawing a straight plane line and thus maintaining initial posture.

Extensor muscles are in the arm whose function is to straighten a joint...this site is a handy little cheat sheet Muscle Tissue and Muscles

Here are a couple of things I've done in the past to address the issue. One is a way thinking/visualizing, the other is more of a physical approach. The key is you have to offer ideas/methods that make sense to a kid rather than one that only makes sense to an adult. Both are from my blog and have the advantage of having been field-tested and shown to work.

I get what an extensor muscle physically does, and I see it in action during that part of the swing. I'm not making the connection in how FFS' comment about "extensor action" relates to not dropping the hands (assuming the clip is a correct demonstration of what FFS is talking about) . It seems that rear arm extension can happen from lots of different locations. How does "extensor action" limit dropping the hands?

It will have a feel of a light tug of the hands pulling apart (mostly the top hand) in the direction along the barrel.

Because the top hand is physically pressuring upwards along the barrel prior, just up to, when you work the barrel at 'swing launch'.

No. The extensor action takes place during the 'backswing' .... going into one's "swing launch".

This is what I came across a previous time you used the phrase "extensor action". It's not at all what most people think (extension of the rear arm).

Can you please try to describe what your version of "extensor action" is? Use simple words. When, where, how, which arm, what direction are the forces happening, etc.?

EricF, give this a view. See if you can capture tug of the hands apart ... mostly the top hand ... then imagine this happening between one's 'stance' and arrival at 'swing launch' ... and how the direction of this tug is along the barrel length ... and how it disappears and virtually automates the turning of the barrel at 'swing launch'.

Here is Elk attempting to describe extensor action relative to the golf swing.
