Back on the dirt...
Tablet seems much easier to me but maybe it's what I am used to. It's also nice when you're using the video analysis for the hitter to see the instant feedback. I put my iPad on a tripod on the opposite side of the plate and it shows instant numbers, and she can adjust to see the numbers change with her swing changes.

The advantage I could see of a tablet after very limited use of the device is that you may want to set the tablet up opposite the batter for them to see immediate results at times. When we were working on my daughter's attack angle above, we just set my phone up on the ground and propped it up on a ball, and she'd swing and look at it and see if her tweaks produced desired results. It was immediately obvious when she loosened her hands and the angle improved and bat speed went up that that was something that moved things in the right direction.

I don't think you'd use it that way all the time and focus on the device too much, but it might be useful if you're going to set up challenges if used in a group setting to get some competitive juices flowing. I could see a cheap tripod and a cheap tablet mount being a nice addition. The phone screen's kind of small for that use.

However, most of the time, a phone's probably fine.

EDIT: Heh, posted before reading 4 girl's dad's post. Sounds like my thought is along the lines of his use as well.

Great reads here. I'm looking to buy a Zepp and start some local area hitting instruction. Would a smart phone suffice or do you thing a 8" or 10" tablet be better?
If you are just using the swing metrics and swing path features either will work just fine. If you'll be doing video analysis I would recommend using the highest quality device camera you have available . In my case, using the camera on the back of the iphone6 gives best images and then can be viewed on larger screen (ipad or computer) later by transferring through Zepp account. When video was shot with ipad2 or camera on front of iphone6 the bat, hands and ball at contact would blur and and there wouldn't be as many frames to scroll through sometimes causing key pieces of swing to be missed. Also, be aware that currently there is no option to zoom camera in or out or to use device flash as light when recording on Zepp app, so camera will need to be approx. 9-10 feet away to capture barrel to feet during swing which can cause issue if in garage/basement or indoor batting cage with poor lighting and/or limited space.

Gotta have a tablet... I will set mine on a shelf angled so that the student can see the numbers. If we see something that need adjusted, we'll do so, but the huge bonus is in the fact she'll see instant results of that adjustment! Something as simple as telling her to loosten her grip and to place the handle in her fingers instead of her palms will create a faster barrel speed! She can now verify it instantly after each cut! I'll tell them "don't take my word for it, look for yourself!"

Thank you all very much. I didn't even know about the video analysis capability and I will definitely think about that. However, I like my flip phone. Yes, I know, I'm not one of the cool kids but I don't care, it did what I needed it to do. So, tablet first. Maybe a birthday hint to the wifey, eh.

Ive had my zepp about a year and use it pretty regularly. What I didnt realize till recently that it has separate softball and baseball settings. I just started using the baseball setting for my DD. I dont have enough info to compare yet though. What setting are you using for your softball player? The consensus here seems to be that the swings are trained the same. How about with the zepp?

Zepp came in today. The quickstart guide says charge it up, download the app and go. It's that easy, eh?

Yes its that easy. Follow the prompts to set up your account and your player/players. I have used it with other girls on DD's team to show them what their swing looks like. They have found it more fun than DD though :/ prob because I wasn't trying to correct her swing lol.

I new to it, 4. What I know is from this thread. I'll be using it with multiple players so I'm thinking 2-3 bats and go from there. Not sure to buy extra bat mounts or use the sticky pad and just use the one mount.

I wasn't sure if I should extend this thread or start a new one. Anyway, working on the Zepp and pretty pleased so far. Questions on the video playback. I'm using a Samsung Tab A and the video is blurry when it comes to hitting and pitching. Not the player but the arm and bat motion. I'm thinking it's the tablet camera? Also, when I play the vids back on my PC, they come out horizontal. Can anyone help?
Connecting the sensor has been a challenge but getting better. Some other annoyances, as well, but I can see how it can help.
thanks

If motion is blurry it most likely is the camera. Are you using the higher resolution camera on back of Tab? Also check tabs video setting to record in highest quality possible (will use up more space though) and try to optimize lighting.
