New to site, lots of good info. I have one simple question. I am trying to implement the Forward by coiling hitting method on my 12U travel team. What is the first step to teach and work on? Hands, hips, coil? And what are the initial drills to work on? Thanks in advance.

Right Here For Now
Start from the ground and work your way up. I always work on the lower half first. Coil/uncoiling, creating drive, making sure that there is proper weight shift and the back foot is climbing the ladder, etc. etc. Then move on to the upper half i.e. proper hand path, turning the barrel, tilt, etc.

It starts with the core/middle. Ground reaction forces are felt increasingly as you get better engaging your core.

Simple cues I use with my hitters

As you pick up your front foot either

Try and get your front hip under your belly button - should force the hitter to squeeze the pelvis together and create stretch in the lower back (this is practical forum so no techie words here) and bring the front shoulder down creating crimping type feeling in the lead side between the ribs and top of pelvis

Or

Try and keep the front hip lower than the rear hip - of course this is anatomically impossible but it creates the same feelings/stretches as the first cue.

This leads the hitter into FBC using the core instead of just using the rear leg - so in "connects" the whole body to the movement.
