The swag thread and the weekend my DD had at the plate got me wondering about this.

How do you get your DD to get her "swag" back when she is in a funk at the plate? My DD had a bad day Sunday and by the end of it was basically saying she couldn't hit at all (which of course made the slump worse). Tried every positive reinforcement that I could but nothing helped.

With all of the experience on here, I'm sure someone has the cure for this. ;)

Here's the approach I'm going to try with my DD...

"Imagine you're the pitcher. The first batter looks confident, relaxed, and has a good-looking swing. The second batter looks scared, tense, and has a timid swing. Which one are you more worried about pitching to? When you're the one stepping into the box, what do you want the pitcher to think about you?"

I don't have a great answer but what I have been working on for awhile is getting her to realize 1 poor at bat doesn't mean anything. When it lingered we'd just do more reps at home and I'd tell her she put in all the work and now it was time to go get the reward. She is getting better and better at not letting a bad at bat ruin a tourney.

I tell both my DD's they have to believe in themselves and let the pitcher know they aren't intimidated.

Thanks for the replies. Getting her to forget about the last bad one is the hardest part. I like the idea of picking a spot and telling herself that she's going to hit it there. I honestly think if she could get her mind off of hitting, she would be able to hit better if that makes any sense. We'll continue to work on believing in herself and see where that takes us this weekend.

I am getting some great advice on this thread. From now on I will advise my dd to act scared when she approaches the plate, maybe look tentative on the first pitch. Then she can rip the down the middle pitch the pitcher gives her next because she is not afraid of my dd and her ability based on her appearance. My dd has already benefited from pitchers and teams defending her based on appearance, this will help her raise her BA even more.

If she has the ability and confidence to ACT scared, great! That's a different level than the girls who actually are scared.
