OK, to answer my own question, I've stumbled upon this from FFS. Very helpful.

If anyone has more to add, please do. Maybe Rdbass will arrive with video aid. :)

First, the "fall" in the cue "tall in the fall" is a "fall position". The "fall position" is the very start of the forward movement ... when the COM (Center Of Mass) moves forward towards the pitcher.

The reason it is called the "fall position" is that the person that coined the phrase considered the "stride" to be "falling". The start of the "stride", or the start of the "COM moving forward", was thought of as "falling forward". Hence the start of this was referred to as the "fall position" ... simply the start of the COM moving forward.

Now the notion of "stay tall in the fall" is meant to not scrunch the rear leg in arriving at the position that begins moving the COM forward. Said differently ... the "rear leg" is "not scrunched", and if anything has a feel of assisting the body become taller to start the stride forward.

Can someone explain this concept? I think I have it right - ''tall in the fall''.
I thought the ideal was for the hitter to get 'sat/sit'?

"Sat" or "Sit"

1) can happen in the stance from pre set coil.

2) can happen as a result of the rear hip resisting rotation (trying NOT to rotate) as the rear leg drives in a directional line towards the ball

3) can happen to adjust to a pitched ball "low" in, middle, away....so that the arms do not have to lower the hands to ball plane

Basically overlap is getting "sat".

"Sat" is a very important adjustability feature to enhance your ability as a hitter.

I don't see Hamilton getting 'taller in the fall'.

I think this move is an example of FFS's tall in the fall. Back leg straightens slightly as hip moves forward. No? Seems like you could sit and gather and then tall in the fall. I agree that I can't see that move in Hamilton.

Here's the link to the "tall in the 'fall position'" .... http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-hitting-technical/11038-coil-into-lean-3.html#post124269

Scrunching would be the bending/folding/flexing of the rear leg during what many would call the 'negative move'. Someone trying to jump straight up, would first flex into their legs before springing straight up ... that would be a form of scrunching.

Let's go over the cue "tall in the fall".

Here is Pujols becoming "Tall in the Fall". Notice that he is not physically becoming taller ... his head is not being raised, although you will see the head raised slightly for many.
