In your face
Good points. I am a HI and coach a couple teams. Players that play for me, I obviously see. Players who do not, I try to get to a game but time doesn't always permit me getting there. I ask for video from my students.

I do ask how they did, were balls squared or flared. I then ask, what pitches was the pitcher getting hitters out with? What pitches did he throw to the hitter in front of you and what did the hitter in front of you do? I ask about the pitch sequence he got. I want to make sure my hitters are working the game. Not just going out there and playing.

I'm glad you take the time to work/see your students in games. I understand some HI have numerous students and getting around to seeing them all would be impossible. I do wish they would for newer students after a few mechanical lessons to make sure the body and mind are processing the information. I'd also like the HI to be open to game invitations for batters who may have been students longer but slipped into a slump.

We had one of Ernie Parker's pitching prodigies first year 14u. One thing I liked was he made it around to the ball fields to watch his students. He'd come watch a few innings of our game, I'd see him later watching a 12u student, later in the day I'd see him watching one of his 16-18u. I wouldn't expect any instructor to spend their whole weekend at the ballparks, but maybe a day ( couple of hours ) a month as an investment for your clients is not too much to ask.

It is hard to get out and see them all. I do what I can and can generally, at one time or another get out and see them play. I never get much time for my wife or myself. If I have a weekend "off" it is usually spent at the field watching my players play.

It is how I feed my family so I have to live, eat and sleep what I do. Like you said, it is an investment in my clients. They trust me and I have to show them that I will do what it takes to help them improve.
