My daughter is 7 and is 4'4" weighs 61lbs. She just started a month and a half ago. We started with a cheap Easton bat that was 27" and 17oz. After a month and week the bat was just to short for her, and to light too. So I bought her a Worth Toxic on eBay, 30" and 19 oz. What a difference that made. She can handle it well.

We hit 90 to 100 11" fast pitch softballs a night, when she doesn't have practice and the weather cooperates. After just a month and a half of softball she is the best hitter on her team, I guess she has some natural ability.

DD is 17 5'7" and about 135. She swings 34/24, however, couple things. She works out daily with trainer for several years and has great strength, has quick bat speed and tends to stay short to the ball vs. some players getting a little longer to the ball. She is a lefty. The extra length allows her to grab some outside pitches she was not able to get with the 33/23.

My 10 year old DD is 5'2" 120 pounds. She uses a CF5 31/-11. She's pretty strong from swim team and playing volleyball. Thinking of moving her up to a bigger bat...

Nearly-9yo DD, 4'-8", 77 lbs - she's lean and strong, but still trying to sort out a solid and consistent swing. Her weapon of choice at the moment is a 29/17.5 Easton Synge. Based on how she's been growing, I'm hoping this bat will get her through Fall Ball. I'm expecting that the Spring season will find her with a new bat in hand.

Understanding bat sizes is EASY ... but takes a lot of MONEY.

Start with a bat she is quick enough to get around fast pitching for your age. Then get a second bat and inch longer or an ounce heavier. Use the longer (or heavier) bat for when you face the slower pitcher.

Soon she will be able to use the longer (or heavier) bat for the fast pitchers for her age. Then go up another size, again for the slower pitchers. Rinse and repeat.

Carry two bats, of different sizes. One for slow pitchers, and one for fast pitcher. Let her decide which to use.

Sure it is expensive. Over time, it all gets sorted out and you learn about bats.

I have a dozen bats at home from when my DD started playing at 5 years old. I save them all. I am a bat freak.
