Here is my 10 y/o hitting off of a tee. I drew the lines on the floor to place the tee which is inside her left foot and to see how far she has been stepping out? How to correct her from stepping out? Her swing just seems soooo slow? So any constructive advice with suggestions how to correct is appreciated. Her bat is a 31/18.5. Unfortunately I read that most don't like anything more than a -10 but I already purchased the bat, not sure she could handle the added oz anyway.

Her head flies out too but could that be a product of the stepping out?

Yeah you have to stop the stepping out it is almost hard to work much else because it is leading to other problems. She is casting out and her front arm is fully extended almost before contact but that is because she is so far away she has to do that to hit the ball. She also has her front knee bent at contact so she does not have a firm front side to hit against but again if her front leg was extended she would be in line with the shortstop and hitting the ball off the end of the bat. You also see that see is pulling her head out staying on a line might help as well.

Hopefully others have good drills I always just put my glove down behind their foot and watch them step on it a few times but that is not very safe drawing the line is good but as you can see without some kind of instant feedback she just keeps doing it even though she is not on the line. Also have her start out a little more natural and relaxed her elbows should rest comfortably down and make an upside down V her back elbow is way too high to start, she is also pre loaded or at least turned alot when starting her stance have her start more parallel to the plate with her shoulders.

Rdbass I redneckognize the work it takes to put the gifs up so thank you. Well start with the stepping out problem and the weak front side. Any drills suggestions are appreciated

Have her start "open" to begin with. That way she will have to step "in" instead of stepping "out".

As far as pulling the head, set another tee a foot or so out towards the net with a ball on it and have her look at that ball for an instance after she hits the target ball.

My suggestion would be to move her back foot closer to the plate. There is really nothing wrong with what she is doing with her lower body.

Look, this girl has a good base to start with. especially her lower body. Why take away what she does well. It is her upper body that is killing this swing. Have you guys ever seen Chipper, Bautista and others hit? Would you tell them to fix their lower bodies? Could this girl deepen the coil a little more? Yep but she is doing a pretty good job of it.

She is getting no resistance from her hands. Her hands are moving back and working around her elbows. Which is what a lot of young kids do. If she will learn to pull with the rear elbow behind her, like nudging someone standing behind her with her elbow. Her hands will pull in closer to her rear shoulder and she will be able to load the barrel behind. She will be able to work the elbows around the hands. This will give her the resistance needed in the upper body and you won't see the flying out that you currently see.

Leave the lower body alone for now and work on the upper body. Think throwing, not swinging. A gate swings and it swings around. A barrel gets thrown and it is not thrown around.

Thanks for posting these.

You can see they do not step out quite as far but they have better upper bodies. If they had the same upper body as this young girl, who knows how far they would be stepping out?

They also maintain the coil better.
