Seattlecoach,

You're absolutely correct. Poor field conditions can create the atmosphere of hesitation.

Tennis balls, racquet balls, super balls, frisbies, etc...all great tools for teaching agility & hand/eye coordination.

Glove & gloveless infield/outfield using tennis balls & softies.

Every athlete will have different skill level & appetite for skill challenge. Poor field conditions can be just one tool which can facilitate a challenging live game scenario. Wet vs dry, hard vs soft, dirt vs lime, raked vs unraked, etc.

All great training tools.

IMO, third is a pretty important position on the field...just curious where was she playing before and what type of injury moved her to third base? If you don't want to say publicly, I understand. Was just wondering.

Depending on how old she is work on picking the ball up with her throwing hand and throwing off balance.

If you hit to her try to stay square to the field and pull thee ball, try not to turn your body towards her.

The bare-handed play in it's various forms in baseball by and large does not exist in softball. Baseball is small and the player's hands are bigger, the softball is much larger and the hands smaller.

If it's slow enough to easily bare hand the runner is typically safe in softball any way.

As a coach, the most important thing is an accurate throw to first. All of these other things are fine, but they don't mean squat if the throw is off. Standard outs to first are essential and mandatory. If this sounds to basic it's because it is. Balls are stupid, they go where you throw them. Best of luck to her, she sounds like someone who can make the switch.

Hmmm...not sure I agree with that one. I see a lot of bare-handed fielding done on bunts.
