@Momo - Thanks. I think shortening up our distance will help to get rid of that long step with the right foot.

@Amy - Luckily, she adjusts to a 4 seam grip instinctively now, so that's good. When you say you pull it back to your ear/shoulder, what direction is the ball facing? If not 2nd base, it isn't facing home plate, is it? To your 'off topic' ... that's our neighbor's house. He keeps it up nicely. We're in CT, so those trees in the background took a BEATING in the blizzard with 33" of snow and ice.

Yes. If I get a chance, I will look for the info that we have discussed on here about that. We sometimes look at videos of Coach Candrea teaching it the way you do, and then, his players don't do it. Also, the founder of this site (if I recall) says that facing the ball backwards, isn't necessary.

Interesting. In my experience, the ball needs to at least be facing third base while learning, otherwise the girls tend towards a pushing motion. But I love hearing other points of view.

In 40 years of being in softball, I was unaware (until a few years ago,) that some people turn the ball backwards, to throw it forward.

I am searching, w/o success, for the previous discussion.

I would default the holding it like I would pitch it, fingers to the catcher and try to teach two things...IMHO just me :{)) Tips to Target

Pretty nice Grog, better then any of the girls I had when coaching 10u.

Just small things. Glove hand like most have said...I like a pull back, (pull back that help power the throw), a pull back of the glove hand tucking under glove arm arm-pit.
She does pull her arm with her body...better then most at that age...I think it could keep improving. I tell the team girls, point glove arm elbow at target, put glove "on a shelf", then when throwing and tucking glove, put your chest through the spot that the glove was in, and your throwing elbow over the spot.

I agree with you on ball facing at least third. Also stay over the ball, or at least behind, not under the ball. A lot of girls that don't do this will drop their elbow and push the ball. I wouldn't worry about your dd, but I wouldn't change the way she is doing it.

Do lots of long toss.

Thanks very much redhot. Need to work on the glove arm for sure. Good tips.

We have done some long toss in the past ... which is where (I think) that BIG first step with the right foot came from. So maybe just long toss with just a pivot of the right foot instead of that big step?

I'm right here.
@TJ -I agree with you on her back foot, but disagree about her front foot facing her target. I see her front foot landing more sideways then I'd like (in other words, I'd like the toes of her front foot pointing more at me than they currently are, but I'm curious what others feel about that.

I would rather see the front foot at 45 degrees, just seems more natural. Also, I sent you a PM.
