Just thought I'd post some information I received from USSSA regarding fastpitch bat regulations. Beginning 2013, no bats, composite or aluminum, will be allowed unless they have a 2012 USSSA certification seal on the taper of the bat. The person from USSSA told me that the bats with the new certification should become available in Sept 2011. Bats you are using now will be okay through 2012 but not after that. If you are thinking about spending big $$$$ on a bat now, know that your DD will only be able to use it through next year.

U trip draws the highest # of teams, yes there are plenty
that are not good, but due to sheer #'s of entries, we always
find good competition, especially when we play up

What, exactly, does USSSA do to certify their bats? What are their standards?

We play some USSSA tournaments as warmups and experiments (because playing them has no effect on ASA roster rules) with moving kids up and down, but for the most part they're a joke out here in California. We won't be purchasing new bats to go play joke-ball.

Absolutely! In Eastern PA, U-Trip has become rec level SB.

Completely opposite in the Midwest. Why is it a problem that U-Trip would limit the pop of a bat? As it is, I see a lot of average hitters become good hitters because their parents are willing to spend $300+ for a bat that has extra pop. Wouldn't it me more competitive if all the girls used bats with similar pop? Just my opinion.

If the bats were equal that would be ideal! Part of the problem is making them so they can't be altered, neither by normal use nor by machine. Then we would know the athlete.

The problem is that, right now, bats are manufactured to ASA limit standards. I'm willing to bet that the USSSA has the same standards (although I've yet to see their testing criteria) and simply don't want to use "ASA certified" in any of their rules or literature.

This means, essentially, that kids now have to get their parents to buy them ANOTHER bat, that's more then likely exactly the same as the bat they already have, but has a cute little USSSA sticker on it.
