I am looking at getting a Mizuno Whiteout for my DD. She is 11, 5-0, about 130 lbs, and moving up to 12U (rec) in the spring. She used a 31/18 this year, which was a bit light for her obviously. I'm thinking I should get her a 31/21 whiteout but I have a nagging feeling that she will be ready to go a 32 pretty quickly so I should just make the jump now. But the 31 is still a big weight jump for her. Should I go for the 32 or stay at 31?

Thanks.

I was in a similar position recently. My DD is 5'3" and was swinging a 31/19. I wanted to get her swinging a -10 so I was torn between a 32/22 and 31/21. I ultimately decided on a 31/21 because I thought maybe 3 oz was too big a jump. It turned out to be a good decision for my DD.

I'm not sure how Mizuno bats tend to run, but if they are over sticker-weight (a many manufacturers are), it may be closer to 22oz, which is now a VERY big change in weight. Depending on her strength and speed, she might do fine with it once she adapts. Then again, she might not.

IMO, the 31" length is probably fine, but at this age it could be too short next week ;)

I ran into the to small next week issue. Bought DD a 31/20 inch bat in fall ball last year and by spring she was swinging a 34/23 inch bat. she grow almost 6 inches over the winter! I personally would wait till closer to the season and then have her swing some bats of her friends.

Anecdotal, but we have the Miz whiteout 32/24. it weighs ONLY 23.85 including the wrapper/ warranty pamphlet and the grip. It is disappointing to get cheated on weight IMO. Grips weigh 1/2 oz on avg and do not affect swing speed any more than a pair of batting gloves do. This bat is really more of a true -9. It is too bad that it runs lighter than stickered. That is why it is still in the wrapper.

I would let her try out a few, we went up from 31/21 to a 32/22, both Demarini Hope's, I also picked up a Xeno 32/23, she seems to have kept her bat speed with both 32's, she loves the 32's. She just turned 11 at 5"4' 125, wears a 10 1/2 and am waiting for her to sprout up but feel she is fine with the 32's, almost went with an insane but not yet, batting .630 obp.710, the end load slowed her down so really just go try a few out, watch for bat drag

So here's what happened. We went to check out an indoor practice facility this morning that our team might use for some off-season practices and they had a pretty good sales area. I was checking out the bats, thinking I'd see if DD could swing a few to get an idea of sizes, and the guy pointed out the 50% off rack. On the rack, they had several XLTs and Xenos along with a few other high-end bats. There was a 32-22 Xeno marked at $260. We took it into one of the tunnels and DD swung it and had a really good feel with it. We went back and I asked the guy if it was really 50% off. He said he had no idea why some of those bats were on that rack, but it was indeed 50% off. I was thinking of telling DD we couldn't get it and then go back later to pick it up as a surprise, but I was afraid it would be gone by the time I could get back. He rang it up for me at $130 and said that they were losing money on it but that's not my problem, and he joked that we should leave qiuckly in case they changed their minds.

We made a quick stop at home to get some balls and then went to the park to try it out. We could see the pop in it already and the difference that a good bat makes.

That's definitely an upgrade compared to the Whiteout. DD has both and there's no comparison. We've really tried to get the Mizuno to work for her too.

Absolutely, but I didn't want to spend $180-200+ on a bat, which is what I've seen the Xenos and XLTs going for currently. I definitely don't mind spending the extra money to get the get the Xeno at that price. They had a Whiteout, but it was a 33 so we couldn't really compare the feel of it, and I think it was around $90-95.
