Thread: infielders glove suggestion for 10u? anything pre broken in?

i know its a bad time early summer to find a new glove, but we need one.
is there such a thing as pre broken in? i thought i heard of it, but cant find one.
any suggestions? this is for infield.

If you buy a brand new glove, ask the dad of one of your pitchers if they will help break it in for you. At 10U, you can still catch for most pitchers with a fielders glove, and if the pitcher is throwing @ 500 pitches/week it should take 1-2 weeks to break it in (oiling it before they start would help).

Do you have a price range? Some are easier to break in, than others. It depends on the quality of leather and how long you want it to last. Obviously, a $200 glove will last many years. But at 11, I think I would buy something mid range and then, replace it for high school.

My dd uses the Mizuno Jenny Finch glove, not the pink trimmed one, she actually has owned 2 of them. One she lost and we replaced it with the same glove mid season. We had it 2 days and it was game ready. Its lasted 2+ years and is about to be replaced. But at around $60 I think we got our moneys worth out of it.

Mizuno gloves tend to be very soft and easy to break in. The downside is they only last a year or so, but at 11 that isn't a bad thing since she's growing anyway. You can order them pre-steamed from softball.com which makes them even softer.

My DD (10) has used the Louisville Slugger Zephyr gloves the past 2 years. They require no break in and are light. The inner half is leather and the outer is a nylon mesh which makes it lighter. Since it is not all leather it probably won't last as long but it is very easy for a younger player to open and close.

The louisville slugger 12" with the nylon backing either the zephyr or diva are light and broken in. My DDs glove got floppy after the summer and part of fall TB. I switched her over to the Louisville Valkyrie 12". The fit and cut pattern is the same as the zephyr/diva but is made from steerhide. I helped break her glove in about a week. You could purchase any glove and get it steamed treated to break it in quicker.

I soak em. Bake em at a very low temp. Microwave em. Dry, rinse, repeat depending on the glove. Wrap em tight with a ball after and then oil em up. I know manufacturers say not to break in gloves this way because it hurts the leather, yet major leaguers break thEm in like this and their gloves last all season.

Oh, and I also made one of those ball on a dowel mallets and use this for breaking in gloves and comp. Bats.
