When purchasing insurance for a team , is it required to have insurance for each sanction (USSSA , ASA , etc.) or will one policy purchased cover all tournaments played regardless of sanction ?

I would think it would depend on the policy and/or the sanctioning body.

Our teams generally register all the girls for ASA, which ASA requires, and includes insurance. All the other sanctions then require a team sanction fee (like $30 or so) but accept the ASA insurance. You usually have to bring a roster with proof of ASA membership and insurance to all tournaments you play in. There may be other ways to do it, but we've never had a problem playing tournaments with any other sanctions.

Yes , we have paid all of our different sanction fees. Just was wondering about the insurance. For instance , if we purchase USSSA insurance , would it still cover us in ASA , NSA , ISA , etc. tournaments

I was told by an asa rep that if your team is asa sanctioned, that covers each girl no matter if they play on several teams or any other associations event. I would take a close look at it first though, I dont 100% believe that is correct.

He says that U trip only covers negligence on the field and etc. Asa covers whatever the players health ins wont no matter what the accident. We have been to the hosp, paid just under $1000 out of my pocket, utrip wouldnt pay anything, unless it was like a faulty fence, hole in field, and etc.
I think with the finacial situations that a lot of families are in, it is not to be taken lightly.

My understanding, in Iowa anyways, is that all of the other groups will accept ASA insurance, but ASA will not accept any other insurance.

One exception that I know of is "Premier Girls Fastpitch" or PGF. From the PGF website (Premier Girls Fastpitch)

We will only accept PGF Insurance for all 2012 PGF Sanctioned Events. No other insurance will be accepted.

I can't find the exact link, but I know I read on there somewhere where they specifically said that ASA insurance is NOT accepted.

So, I guess the short answer is you have to check organization by organization what is required.

Bollinger Insurance: Sports Programs

Bollinger writes policies for sports teams. I think they kick back to the sanctioning bodies when they sell their policies.

What Bollinger does for the sanctioning bodies is sponsor a function (luncheon, clinic, etc.) at events of that organization, just as does just about every company in this country at one level or another. Sometimes it is something big, sometimes not, all depends on the event and level of patronage.

That is the way we hear it in Nebraska. Even the USSSA rep will tell you if you are playing any ASA then just get the ASA insurance.
