My DD is 12, we take Dec and January "off". I say "off" because we're just not playing games or going to formal practices. She still has pitching lessons every Tuesday and Batting lessons every Wednesday. From about mid Feb to mid November it's all softball, all the time :)

DD is 9, and is a very strong softball and soccer player. She played a little over 50 softball games this year and pitched in about half of them, not always a full game. I'm the dad who doesn't mind when DD is not pitching. I don't want her to break down from overuse. Softball ran from March until November. She plays only rec soccer, so that's a 12-game fall schedule, then will have some indoor games this winter along with basketball. She made a select soccer team for 2012, but is undecided about whether to start practicing with them in February.

She wants to stick with rec softball another year, so that would mean 50 or so games again, a schedule with which she had no problem with this year. She would rather play a few more games, if possible. She's still seeing a PC now, but isn't practicing that much between sessions. She sees her hitting coach on a when-she-feels-like-it basis.

My DD is just one kid, though. And she really loves softball. I can imagine 20-25 games being more than enough for some other girls her age.
