I challenge you both to give me another example of a professional athlete that gives as much back to the youth of their sport as Jennie Finch.

I didn't laugh, but I can answer your question. Cal Ripken Jr. No, I'm not an O's fan.

So who was Jennie Finch's pitching coach?
I don't know for certain, but I have a feeling that Mrs. Finch and many of the other elite players received the same type of coaching that many of our dd get. As flawed as some of that may be they still developed into the elite players we know today. They were not always elite players and had to start somewhere. Softball has grown immensely in the last decade, but it was not where it is today when Jennie was growing up learning how to pitch(or hit for that matter). Yet she was able to become the dominate pitcher she was.
Don't get me wrong, I want my dd to get the best instruction she can, but I have not found a pc around here that teaches "IR" as it's talked about on this forum. So should I not take her to her lesson Monday? Will the fact that we live in So IL handicap my dds chances of ever becoming a good player/pitcher/hitter? Should we just give up now and save some money because my dds pc (who is a former NPF player and coach at SIU) rolls her hand up toward her shoulder like so many others teach. I guess they are all wrong.
I have no doubt that Jennie Finch and Cat Osterman care about young girls and wanna develop the future of the sport they love. But softball is also a money making machine. I think you have to take everyone's opinion and treat it like a hotwing, stick it your mouth, suck all the meat off, and spit out the bones. And don't forget to pay your bill because no one is gonna let you have their secrerts for free.
I agree that Jennie Finch was a dominant pitcher as well as Cat. How come no body ever talks about Monica Abbott. I love watching her pitch.

PA - didn't mean to offend you, just pointing out that Jennie Finch has done a great job of creating a marketing empire for herself in fastpitch softball by licensing her name and image (e.g. her own line of Mizuno gloves). She has even the "dream (her logo) believe" trademarked. There are numerous products she endorses and what better way to help sell them than by meeting those consumers at softball clinics and camps.

She has been a great ambassador for the game no doubt about it, but she also is a smart business women who gets her face and name out to the public to help sell what she is selling.

Did you see her at the MLB all-star celebrity softball game shortly after giving birth to her child. She is keeping her name relevant after having "retired" from fastpitch.

Is she the best ever?

no,But before people think I'am a Jennie hater I'am not.My dd was a Cat follower as am I.Jennie pitched at a different time in this sport, game of 1 to nothing.Back when you only had a few hitters, when slappers made most of the line up.Bats have changed the game too.Now if your dd doesn't have PC,or a BC by 10yro she is all ready behind. The best is to hard to answer, some think Babe Ruth was the best, maybe 60 years ago,but now he would never play after high school. The best??????????

Jennie Finch is a great role model! We need to help keep her there.

Some may prefer the Kardashians as role models but I'll take Jennie Finch even on a bad day!

Throw in a little Caitlin Lowe, Cat Osterman, Natasha Watley, Jen Yee, etc., ...

I think that the pro athletes from softball need to make their money, now. In 5-10 years, a new group of little girls aren't going to know who they are. There are many right now, that don't know who Bustos is. They have never heard of Dot Richardson and they only know Michelle Smith from her announcing.

I have no problem with these ladies making their money and think that the camps/clinics and endorsement money and think they should. There's a lot of money being made in softball right now and I think it's great for the athletes to make some. We all know they don't make that much playing.
So who is the best?
