Was using the Hero 4 Silver this past weekend to record some friendlies. When I looked at the viewfinder is said "repairing file" with a bandaid icon. The message and icon went away but can't view the file must still be damaged?

Any suggestions on how to fix file?

I would take the memory card out and see if you can view the files on your computer. I would also immediately replace the memory card.

Totally agree with JAD. Also, this biggest cause of corruption is camera shutdowns. If the camera shut down in the middle of the recording, the file is generally not recoverable. Also, if you happen to have stopped a recording and immediately shut the camera down, the file may not have completely stopped processing. With the Hero4, that is usually fatal as well (*). I mention this because if it was either of those 2 cases, your card is probably OK. Otherwise, I would not trust it in the future. Lastly, making sure you format the card on the GoPro and not just deleting files on the computer will help this sort of thing as well.

(*) Side note:. We have seen that the HERO5 does a much better job of repairing files. We have purposely downs the camera while recording and have recovered video 100% of the time.

We've discovered that if you want games to record reliably you HAVE to format the SD card *with the GoPro* before filming. Every time we forget to do that, we end up with an error and/or corrupted files. We thought we had a bad SD card but once we started formatting them before every tournament we haven't had any more problems. I don't know if there's a way to fix the files, but FYI for the future in case you're not already doing this.
