I have questions from those that have been though the college process. Dd went and visited another college on Tuesday and meet the coach. Dd has fallen in love with the school. It is where she sees herself. The college has a great program for her major, small class sizes and offers her the setting to grow in her Christian faith. She would go there even if she didn't get to play softball. As of right now she as a freshman when she enters the school would be the only pitcher. I worry that is a lot of pressure but dd tells me that she is up to the task.

My question is that she still has 2 other school she is looking at 1 next Saturday with the coach and another school that the coach has been emailing her back in forth and wants her to come down. Should she go to the school that the coach has invited her to come down? She is going to the one next Saturday. The other issue is she went to a recruiting camp at another college and the coach has been emailing her. The school she loves, the one that she went to the skills camp and the one she has been invited down to by the coach through emails all play each other. The school she loves has already done the interview and other then the application. They say she is a good fit and are looking forward to her going there. I know it is my dd decision, but as her parent how do I guide her? By the way all of these colleges are div.3 schools. My dd has had 2 div.2 schools looking at her but she wants to go to a smaller school. Help!!

I would definitely go visit the other schools. Not only is it important for her to see the schools that are good fits I believe that it is important that she also sees schools that might not be the best fit for her. This will give her a good perspective of schools on both sides of the spectrum plus it will reinforce her choice that she made the right decision with the school she loves. My DD is going through the same thing except she is a JUCO transfer. She just visited a D3 school that appears to meet all of her academic needs and is competitive on the field. Next week we are going to visit a D2 school that I know she probably won't attend but I want her to go and experience it for herself. As far as school goes the order of importance when it comes to making the choice will be; a) the school-academics, b) the financial aid package, c) softball.

I would not look at being the #1 pitcher as a bad thing, everyone loves playing vs. sitting. Just make sure the coaches have a realistic expectations of how the season will go with a true freshman in the circle. BTW - how did the coach get into a situation where they only have one pitcher. That may warrant further investigation.

God, being the only P would be hard. (Christen too)

I think it would be appropriate to set some limits so your DD can use her arm when SB is over.

Good point, especially since they currently don't have any pitchers for 2018.

OP - What does their schedule look like? Do they usually play single games or double headers like many D3/NAIA schools predominantly play? Are they playing DH's on back-to-back days?

Schools usually have some position players that pitched before college and call on them to help out when severely short on pitching.

I wonder that too about not having any other pitcher. They have 2 pitchers this year but both are seniors. I'm hoping they'll pick up another girl.

They play double headers and the coach said that the 3rd baseman that wil be a senior when my dd will be a freshman has pitched before but that's not what she does much of.

Absolutely. In the long run, she (and you) will feel better if you are confident that she made a well informed decision.

I know it is my dd decision, but as her parent how do I guide her?

You need to slow her down. Make her go through the process. Make her do the due diligence. She might not like doing it now, but she will thank you for it at some point int he future.

True story: DD#3 initially was going to Olivet Nazarene. She was really excited about it. She had a scholarship offer.

I made her go look at a couple of other colleges. She went to Hope College, and she forgot about Olivet and went to Hope instead. She never looked back.

I have never figured that out. DD is OK P but why go to school that has a stud freshmen or shofmorm if she wants to Pitch?

If they have 2 seniour pitchers, I can see them trying to regroup.

The worst thing about being the only pitcher is when you are struggling in the circle....and EVERY pitcher has one of those days, and there is no relief coming.
